2012 marks the 40th anniversary of Title IX—the law that prohibits girls from being excluded from team sports based on their gender. This year we’ve also reached another monumental milestone: For the first time in the history of the games, women outnumber men on the U.S. Olympic Team! From household names, like Serena and Venus to brand new soon-to-be stars that are barely 16, here’s a round-up of the women that will be representing the red, white and blue beginning on July 27th. We’ll be watching. Go Team USA!

While I love that this post highlights amazing female athletes AND the anniversary of Title IX, I am confused on the selections. Only four sports represented? No Paralympic athletes? There are some athletes making their fourth appearance and don’t make this list.

We this is sure an impressive list of athletes without a doubt. HOWEVER, one of the most important women is not on this list. Her name is Kim Rhode and she will be the first athlete male or female to win a medal in five consecutive Olympics. She has held world records and is a two time Olympic gold medalist. She still holds the record for being the youngest female gold medalist in Olympic shooting history. But we all know that because it is a shooting sport and the media, and definitely NBC, is way too liberal to even mention a single shooting sport athlete let alone put any coverage on any channel. We have a great USA shooting team filled with great men and women. I just wish they would be acknowledged for their medals as would a swimmer, gymnast, or boxer. etc.

Perhaps NOW that some cable show’s highlighting firearm’s in an interesting and non-violent manner, are gaining a substantial degree of popularity, the TV gods may highlight the Olympic aspact of the sport.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite eanphores, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
