Couturier to the likes of Angelina Jolie and Princess Charlene of Monaco, Akris, based in Switzerland’s fabled “Embroidery City,” is celebrating its 90th year in business with a new commemorative book, curated by FIT’s museum director, Valerie Steele, with an assist from the brand’s designer, Albert Kriemler. “For us, this book is extremely special. If you think of the last 90 years, it’s much more an expression in five chapters of what Akris is today,” Kriemler told us at the Bergdorf Goodman launch of Akris, the book. “The final editing was the most exciting thing. It was like a recipe—doing a meal where you prepare everything for it, but then, when the mise en place is done, it’s really the most exciting moment.” And the finished product is beautiful! Complete with pictures of celebrity fans and decades-old pieces from the brand’s inception, Steele’s book truly gives a well-rounded history of the honored brand.
