Celebrities love Prabal Gurung! It’s only been three years since the Singaporean-born, Nepalese-raised, New York-based designer launched his first collection, and his creations have become red carpet favorites, appearing on Jennifer Lawrence, Zoe Saldana, Sarah Jessica Parker, and more. “You hope rather than know that they’ll wear it,” he said of seeing his designs on Hollywood’s leading ladies. “I can’t even tell you what a pleasant surprise it is.” The love is mutual! “He’s one of my closest friends and I’ve been a witness to his growth the same way he’s been a witness to mine,” Zoe Saldana told InStyle.com of her designer pal. Gurung is known for his use of unconventional fabrics, like lacquered latex, iridescent neoprene, and laser-cut leather, as well as his sleek silhouettes with an avant-garde edge. This innovative spirit won him a $25,000 Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award in 2010, allowing him to show his collection on the New York Fashion Week runway for the first time. While his looks evolve from show to show, the designer keeps one thing constant: “The only trend you need for any season is a good heart and a great smile.” Good advice! That’s a lot of leg! While showing skin has always been a red carpet staple, there’s one flash of flesh happening more often lately—sexy thigh-high slits. This look is one that spans all ages and body types, from Freida Pinto (in Michael Angel) to Jada Pinkett-Smith (in Versace). And Angelina Jolie broke new ground with her leg-popping pose at the Oscars in black velvet Versace, which set off an Internet meme of “Angie’s Right Leg”—complete with its own Twitter handle. So, what’s the appeal? “Thigh-high slits are instant sexy,” celebrity stylist Brad Goreski told InStyle.com. “You can be wearing something that is not overtly sexy, but once you get the element of surprise of seeing so much skin, then it’s definitely an immediate way to get a response.“ Julianne Hough, who recently revealed her dancer’s legs in a thigh-high Michael Kors gown, agreed. “The slit is sexy, and you’ve got to pull a little sex.” While balancing the rest with more demure accents (like Pinto’s peplum)—these girls get it just right! It’s Men’s Fashion Week in over Milan, Italy right now, and the event boasts some of the sexiest front rows of the year. Twilight’s Kellan Lutz worked a tie-neck shirt at John Richmond, and Adrien Brody took in Diesel Black Gold‘s latest menswear offerings. Everything’s coming up roses for Busy Philipps, who matched her floral print nails and dress earlier this month. “Try not to be jealous of my nail design, ok?” Philipps tweeted, along with a close-up of her cute botanical mani. You can recreate her rosy pattern at home—just use a toothpick to swirl two small dots of white and pink nail polish together, then add leaves with a fine-tipped brush. If you’re short on time, reach for a set of patterned nail polish strips, like Sally Hansen’s ($10; ulta.com). Simply swipe on the printed decals and file off the edges, no drying time required.

A beaming Salma Hayek—partially because of her gorgeous beaded emerald Gucci gown and Neil Lane jewelry—joined her Savages co-star Taylor Kitsch (in Dolce & Gabbana) for the Los Angeles premiere of their new Oliver Stone-directed thriller. Fellow castmates Blake Lively, Benicio Del Toro, and John Travolta also attended the premiere, all dressed far differently than their desert-residing movie counterparts. “She has a very specific look,” Hayek told InStyle.com of her character, Elena, who is the leader of a drug cartel. See who else stepped out at last night’s hottest events in the gallery now.
