First Look: Lady Gaga’s First Perfume, Fame

Jun 14, 2012 @ 5:30 pm

Little Monsters rejoice: After first announcing plans to release a scent with Coty in 2010, Lady Gaga’s first fragrance has been revealed! The aptly-named Fame is a heady blend of belladonna, tiger orchid, incense, and honey—instead of the blood-scented mix the singer previously hinted at—and has been deemed the world’s first black perfume. (But don’t worry about staining your clothes, the scent turns invisible once airborne.) “Enjoy the first-ever fragrance from Haus Laboratories,” she said on her website. “Fame, a beautiful prospect with a dark heart.” How very Gaga! Look for the scent when it hits stores in September.

Trend to Try: Double-Duty Hair Ties

Jun 14, 2012 @ 5:15 pm

Give your old-school ponytail holder a chic makeover! Embellished hair ties are increasingly popular, and we love how these handy elastics are disguised as stylish bracelets. Our favorites: Goody’s ponytail trio ($5; target.com), Sephora’s ribbon elastics ($8; sephora.com), the daisy cuff by France Luxe ($30; franceluxe.com), and Marc by Marc Jacobs’s cute bow version ($48; marcjacobs.com). These creative hair ties look just as great in your hair as they do on your wrist, and unlike a bulky scrunchie, you’ll want everyone to notice them.

Niki Taylor’s Cause Celeb: World Blood Donor Day

Jun 14, 2012 @ 4:45 pm

Today is World Blood Donor Day, and Niki Taylor has made it her mission to get people to roll up their sleeves and give back. This year, the model is the face of Nexcare and the American Red Cross‘s “Giving Blood is Timeless” bandages, which are available for free on Nexcare’s Facebook page. They represent past fashion trends,” Taylor told InStyle.com of the stickies, which range from polka dots for the ’50s to grungy plaid for the ’90s and beyond. Giving blood is a cause close to Taylor’s heart—In 2001, a blood transfusion saved her life after a near-fatal car crash. Now, the mom of four makes donating a family event. “It’s become a tradition,” she said. “Me and my boys go every year.” To start your own tradition, find an American Red Cross location or your nearest blood center to donate.

Serums: What They Are, How to Use Them, and Which to Try Now

Jun 14, 2012 @ 3:05 pm

Skin care technology is constantly changing, and we’re loving the new crop of do-it-all serums on the market. But what makes a serum different from a moisturizer? These gel-like formulas have a more concentrated amount of active ingredients in the mix, targeted to battle slick skin, signs of aging, and everything in between. Since the molecules are small, they penetrate into deeper layers of the skin better than a moisturizer, making them perfect for complexions that need a lasting pick-me-up. A little goes a long way, so layer on a dime-sized amount immediately after washing your face, but be sure to read the directions carefully. While some serums can be worn during the day, specific types should only be applied before going to bed. Click through the gallery to see some of our favorites.

Celebrities Love Anklets: Do You?

Jun 14, 2012 @ 1:30 pm

When was the last time you wore an ankle bracelet? Stars like Zoe SaldanaRashida Jonesand Rachel Roy all love their chic-yet-seductive ankle accessories, wearing them frequently to red carpet events. “The key is to stick with one that is delicate yet rich so it does not come off as a costume, merely an accent,” Roy told InStyle.com of the look. And the style spans generations—the designer commissioned her jewel-studded chain from Manon Von Gerkan along with two more for her four-year-old. “One for each of her ankles!” she added. See a few of our favorites in the gallery, and tell us: Would you wear one?

Camila Alves’s Bridal Details

Jun 14, 2012 @ 1:20 pm

Camila Alves wed her longtime beau, Matthew McConaughey, in Texas last week, and now we have all the details on what she wore for her walk down the aisle! Alves asked family friend and fellow Brazilian Ducarmo Castelo Branco to design her embellished lace gown, which was handmade in the bride’s native country by eight seamstresses. “Ducarmo has been making wedding dresses for her entire life,” Alves, told People. “I guess you can say she has been planning this design for over 20 years.” Upping the sparkle, she topped off the dress with a diamond Neil Lane headpiece and 10-carat earrings, featuring pear-shaped center diamonds, before slipping into Stuart Weitzman heels. Tell us, what do you think of the new Mrs. McConaughey’s wedding-day look?
