Emma Stone said she picks her makeup looks “from whatever it is I’m wearing” and last night she paired her black-and-white ensemble with a fresh-faced glow and sexy, tousled updo to accept the first-ever Trailblazer honor at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. “We wanted her look to be fun and flirty, like she’s been on summer vacation for a while,” her makeup artist Rachel Goodwin told InStyle.com exclusively. “So, I really focused on her skin and then added a great pop of color with the coral lip.” Goodwin also noted the mood was lively and fun before the show, as they prepped jamming to The Beatles and Florence and The Machine. “We’re a really tight-knit group and it has been that way for a long time so these are moments that we definitely enjoy,” said Goodwin. “It’s a great collaborative effort. It shows on Emma—she feels great and knows we all care so much.” Get the full beauty breakdown in the gallery.

Many of you wrote in to tell us that you love getting your highlights touched up—except for the fact that dying your hair tends to dry it out. How can you fix it? Give those strands some TLC by investing in a deep conditioner! “I always recommend using a mask like Redken’s Rich Recovery ($19; redken.com for locations) once a week,” said Drew Barrymore‘s colorist Tracey Cunningham. “For seriously damaged hair, head to the salon for a customized treatment to address your specific hair needs.” Good advice!

There’s no better way to celebrate summer in New York City than a polo match! Rachel Zoe (in Rachel Zoe collection), Jennifer Morrison (in Yves Saint Laurent), Leslie Bibb (in Monique Lhuillier), Minka Kelly (in Z Spoke by Zac Posen), Zoe Saldana (in Theyskens’ Theory), and Padma Lakshmi (in Calypso) were just some of the many stars who attended the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, held at Liberty State Park in Jersey City on Saturday afternoon. It was a new experience for some of the guests—“First time!” Bibb exclaimed—while others were longtime veterans—“It’s like my hundredth,” said Zoe, who had the honor of throwing out the first ball. “It just blows my mind that you can play a sport with such a graceful and huge animal,” Saldana told InStyle.com. “And they look like they enjoy it, too! That makes me happy.” During half-time, the crowd took a break from sipping Veuve champagne to stomp the divots Pretty Woman-style before a backdrop of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. And that wasn’t the only big weekend bash! See more stars at the weekend’s hottest events in the gallery.
A new episode of Mad Men premiered last night, and we caught up with the show’s costume designer Janie Bryant to get the inside scoop on the fabulous retro fashions, including the teal dress she made for Betty Francis (January Jones) to wear during Sally’s homecoming. “I wanted her to be in teal for that scene, because blues are Betty’s character’s colors,” Bryant said of the wool shirtwaist design. “I love the femininity of it for this scene. It’s about Betty being motherly to Sally. The design of the dress is quite maternal.” Click through for Bryant’s take on more of last night’s looks, and catch the season finale of Mad Men Sunday, June 10th at 9/8c on AMC.
That was quick! After dyeing her blond strands a rich auburn red six weeks ago, Jennifer Morrison is already back to her sunny color, thanks to colorist Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One Salon in Los Angeles. “I hadn’t dyed my hair in five years,” the Once Upon a Time actress told InStyle.com at the Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic at Liberty State Park on Saturday. “I had just been highlighting it, so it was really strong and healthy, which is why I could do the back and forth this quickly. I definitely couldn’t do that again soon! I just knew I could get away with it.” She had originally switched her hue for a role in the upcoming drama Some Girl(s). “If I wasn’t in the position where I could dye it, I would have just worn a wig,” she said. “I always prefer real hair if I can.” Tell us: Which color do you like better?
Sophie Theallet is about to get a little more budget-friendly! Today, The Limited announced it is collaborating with the French designer to create a collection for stores this November.
