Kate Middleton’s Pink Dress Works Double Duty

On May 18th, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge wore a rose pink dress by Emilia Wickstead to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee at Windsor Castle. Fast forward 11 days later—she wore it again! Today, she wore the pastel look to celebrate for a Buckingham Palace garden party. To be honest, we’re a little surprised by her double-duty pick, if only because it was for two events in a row (why not space it out a little?). Halle Berry always manages to turn heads on the red carpet, and it always seems so effortless. How does she do it? “When I think about how I want to be, I like to be less is more,” the Oscar-winning actress told InStyle.com at the launch of Revlon’s new soufflé-like ColorStay Whipped Crème foundation in New York recently. “I try to be more simple and not let the clothes wear me but me wear the clothes.” In addition, comfort is key. “I generally want to feel comfortable,” she said. “No bells and whistles. Try to find a simple way. That’s what I try to achieve!” Judging from her most memorable “less-is-more” looks—from left, Kaufmanfranco at a 2009 event, Nina Ricci at the 2011 Golden Globes, Halston at the 2011 FiFi Awards, and Elie Saab at 2002 Oscars—it’s mission accomplished!

A new episode of Mad Men premiered Sunday night, and we caught up with the show’s costume designer Janie Bryant to get the inside scoop on the fabulous retro fashions, including this sexy, sweetheart neckline dress Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks) wore for her night with Herb Rennet (Gary Basaraba). “That was actually a vintage garment,” Bryant said of the look. “It wasn’t about her going out to get a new outfit for an evening with Herb. It was sexy, but it had some understated qualities to it.
