Chopard Redesigns Marilyn’s Gentlemen Necklace

May 17, 2012 @ 5:00 pm

At the 65th annual Cannes Film Festival, Marilyn Monroe‘s most memorable movie moment—her rousing rendition of “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend,” in the 1953 musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes—is being celebrated by ChopardThe Swiss jeweler has created a diamond necklace in honor of the blonde bombshell’s object of affection in the film. The extravaganza captures the spirit of the bib the actress flaunted in her famous musical number, but it is far more dazzling, featuring almost 200 carats of diamonds. We’re sure Marilyn would approve—or better yet sing, “Square-cut or pear-shape, these rocks don’t lose their shape!”

First Look: Ruffian’s Collection for MAC!

May 17, 2012 @ 4:30 pm

Cult favorite New York clothing line Ruffian is known as much for their coveted fashion—Kirsten Dunst, Cate Blanchett, and Kate Moss are fans—as for the beauty looks born on their runway. Now that Ruffian Red is an established go-to crimson lip color, designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais are expanding to nails. They’ve collaborated with MAC to develop a collection of super-chic press-ons in varying takes on the signature Ruffian half-moon manicure. “Every season Claude and I start with the manicure idea and it really forms the collection,” Wolk told InStyle.com exclusively. “Ruffian is always about a story, about a movie, about a film. It’s cinematic.” The kits of 24 press-on nails are self-adhesive and will be available for a limited time on maccosmetics.com starting on June 18th. “There is something so Ruffian about the ephemeral, that it will last just for a moment,” said Wolk. View the entire collection in the gallery.

Ashley Madekwe’s Revenge Style: Her Animal Print Blouse

May 17, 2012 @ 4:00 pm

With just one week left until the show’s season finale, things got even more scandalous on last night’s episode of Revenge—and we’re not just talking plot line.  “Now that Ashley no longer works for Victoria we decided to play up the edgier side of her closet,” Ashley Madekwe told InStyle.com exclusively. “The sheer animal print Equipment blouse would have been inappropriate at Grayson manor but we felt that Conrad would appreciate a bit of transparency.” We can’t help but agree! Steal Ashley’s style: A similar zebra print Equipment top is available for $210 on net-a-porter.com.

Julie Bowen Would Never Throw Out Prada, Ever

May 17, 2012 @ 3:30 pm

Julie Bowen has a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants philosophy to style, but there is one thing that is non-negotiable: Prada. “If it says Prada, I don’t throw it out,” the Modern Family actress told InStyle.com at the Huggies Hawaiian and Baby2Baby Luau Event recently, where she wore a vintage green summer dress by the Italian label. “This is vintage Prada, top-to-bottom, and these are my vintage Prada shoes,” she explained. “I’ve held on to all of this since the ‘90s in the hopes that it would come back.” Not only did the pieces come back—she saved them! “I got the shoes on eBay, and I had to sew up the straps of the dress this morning,” she said. “I’m very handy with a needle.” We’d say so! Tell us: Is there anything you just can’t throw away in your closet?

Remembering Donna Summer, 1948 — 2012

May 17, 2012 @ 2:20 pm

“Queen of Disco” Donna Summer, whose chart-toppers provided the soundtrack for the 1970s club scene, has died today at the age of 63. The five-time Grammy winner rose to fame with hits like “Hot Stuff” and “Bad Girls” before co-writing the singles “Love to Love You Baby” and “She Works Hard for the Money.” Summer not only leaves a musical legacy as a multiplatinum-selling artist, she was also an actress, appearing in the 1978 film Thank God It’s Friday—which eared her a Best Song Oscar for “Last Dance.” She is survived by her husband, Brooklyn Dreams vocalist Bruce Sudano, as well as three daughters and four grandchildren.
