Earth Day is Sunday, and one thing we learned: You don’t need a Crayola hue to get greener highlights. Case in point: Colorist Rick Wellman developed Biolights, which uses biodegradable cotton pads to wrap highlights in place of hard-to-recycle aluminum foil—a technology he uses on Mariska Hargitay’s dynamic strands. “The results are more blended and a healthier hair shaft,” Wellman told InStyle.com. “The grow-out is much softer also, as the cotton material adheres exactly where strands are painted.” The organic material disintegrates in less than two weeks, so the technique as gentle on your hair as the environment. The service was developed at New York’s Patrick Melville Salon, and will roll out nationwide soon. For more info, visit biolightscolor.com.
