8 Fun Facts About The Hunger Games Costumes

In the The Hunger Games book, the Capitol is described as an overindulgent place of colored hair and exquisite fashion—and we can’t wait to see how the movie’s head costume designer Judianna Makovsky interpreted Suzanne Collins’ futuristic vision for the big screen. “We had so much to go on from the book,” Makovsky told InStyle.com of how she conceptualized the designs. “A lot of the decisions were made before [the cast] was even hired.” That includes dozens of costumes for lead actors Katniss, Peeta, Gale, and Effie as well as thousands more for extras. And, in an exciting twist, we might be seeing these beyond the theaters. “Nothing in confirmed, but I’m pretty sure they’ll go on display, some sort of exhibit,” she said. Wouldn’t that be great?! See more need-to-know costume info from Makovsky in the gallery now, and check out the movie in theaters this Friday, March 23rd.

Rebecca Minkoff’s New Budget-Friendly Bag

Mar 21, 2012 @ 6:15 pm

Rebecca Minkoff’s handbags just got a little more budget-friendly! The designer teamed up with mark cosmetics, whose beauty team styles Minkoff’s runway models, to create a $60 faux leather bag. “It’s incredibly affordable, but it still has the look and feel with our signature studs and the great cross-body strap,” Minkoff told InStyle.com at the bag’s New York City launch party. The designer offered up some season-spanning styling tips for the item, too: ”It can go over a long coat, or it can be a great festival bag in the summer.” How versatile! Jennifer Lawrence likes to wear her fair share of LBDs (honestly, who doesn’t?), though we’d like to take a moment to point out that this young star looks great in color—any color. The Hunger Games leading lady headed to last year’s SAG Awards in hot pink Oscar de la Renta, hit last week’s Berlin premiere of her action movie in red Marchesa, shimmered in gold Prabal Gurung at the Los Angeles Games premiere, stepped out in forest green Calvin Klein in New York last night, presented at the People’s Choice Awards in electric blue Viktor & Rolf, and spoke with David Letterman in navy-violet Altuzarra. For someone who usually likes neutrals, bright hues suit her well! Tell us: What’s your favorite color to wear?
