My former boyfriend convinced me to go short and natural years ago. It was the most liberating and self empowering move I have ever made and very affirming by men. I believe that men will appreciate most hairstyles if we wear them with confidence and in a society obsessed with weaves and straight hair, it takes a bold and self confident black woman to go natural.

I was flipping the channels and came upon an interview Oprah was having with this beautiful sister who just glowed. I was trying to figure out who this woman was. To my surprise when she smiled I realized this was Viola Davis. Sister girl looks awesome. I applaud her for setting herself free. I had this natural hair dilemma when i started exercising. What did it for me, I went to the salon on Thursday, paid $80 to get a touch up.It looked beautiful. I went to the gym on Monday morning to workout. WhenI finished exercising my hair was gone. I should have just walked in, handed my beautician $80 and walked out. Need I say more, I have gone natural and I feel so free. Praise the Lord I feel free. One day it occurred to me “You are not your hair”. I love it \; that is all that matters. I have not regretted my decision to go natural.
