Runway Looks We Love: Ralph Lauren

Feb 16, 2012 @ 6:30 pm

The editors who watch the Ralph Lauren show always erupt in cheers after the legendary designer presents his collection—but this season the applause came early when the soundtrack from crowd favorite Downton Abbey played over the speakers as the first look hit the runway. Some of the classicism of Downton applied to the collection, like menswear-tailored suits, head-to-toe black looks topped off with high hats and canes, and boyish separates in shades of camel, brown, and heather gray. Quickly, those styles gave way to an ultra-glamorous evening vibe fit for a royal with beaded embellishments, luxe velvets, and eye-catching jolts of fuchsia. Runway Looks We Love: Proenza Schouler

Feb 16, 2012 @ 6:00 pm

Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez created a downtown chic collection for fall with a strong Asian influence. They filled the runway with leather, from head-to-toe looks to skin blazers and motorcycle jackets to tough-chic trim on skirts and outerwear. And the pair offered plenty of after-hours options, too, like flirty mini-dresses in black and bright seafoam as well as bird-print cocktail dresses. The assortment of accessories—this is the label behind the ‘It’ bag PS 11 satchel, after all—included fur handbags and clutches as well as chunky heel boots in ankle and knee-high versions. Runway Looks We Love: Marchesa

Feb 16, 2012 @ 5:45 pm

Celebrity stylists anxiously await Marchesa’s fashion show every season, and rightfully so—every piece from the new fall collection could end up on the red carpet. Inspired by William Adolphe Bouguereau’s portrait “A Soul Brought to Heaven,” designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig produced an angelic collection featuring shimmering gowns concocted from gold lamé, crystal-embroidered illusion lace, and layered tulle. Some designs were so large they skimmed the feet of guests in the front row, which included Rachel Zoe, Stacy Keibler, and Jenna Dewan-Tatum. Even the accessories had a heavenly appeal, from the Christian Louboutin shoes to the Lorraine and Ofira Schwartz jewelry. See our favorite looks in the gallery!

The Blonds: Dressing Jennifer Hudson Is ‘Emotional’

Feb 16, 2012 @ 5:40 pm

Jennifer Hudson’s stage outfits command attention—especially this little red number she wore to the VH1 Divas Celebrate Soul concert in December. The designers behind the look, The Blonds’ David and Phillipe Blond, were beyond thrilled to have the powerhouse singer in one of their designs. “That was just so, so magical,” Phillipe told InStyle.com at the label’s fall 2012 fashion show. “She was completely elated,” David noted. “Even during rehearsals we were really emotional because it’s the first time she’s worn such a revealing and fun costume onstage.” Phillipe added: “It was a really special moment. We all got really emotional.” Fashion can do that sometimes!

Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin for MAC: Now Available

Feb 16, 2012 @ 3:40 pm

Makeup giant MAC enlisted pop stars Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin to create new lip products for its Viva Glam campaign—like Fergie and Lady Gaga did in the past—and the items just hit shelves today. Minaj appropriately released a bright Barbie pink ($14.50), while Martin created a clear lip balm ($15). All proceeds benefit the MAC AIDS Fund, which supports people living with HIV and AIDS. The cause hits close to home for Minaj, whose uncle passed away from an AIDS-related illness. “I have such a young fan base, and I want them to be aware of this issue now because I love them so much,” the rapper told Good Morning AmericaVisit maccosmetics.com to pick up the new products.
