Whitney Houston passed away at the age of 48 today, CNN reports. “My mother taught me beauty really lives in places like a smile,” the late singer once said. And Houston smiled often during a superstar singing career that would garner seven albums, six Grammys and over 170 million records sold. Famously, this success would come with hardships, including a long battle with drug addiction and a rocky marriage to R&B star Bobby Brown. However, prior to her untimely death, the location and cause of which was not immediately known, the single mother to daughter Bobbi Kristina was grinning with the success of her platinum comeback album, I Look to You and a role in the forthcoming Sparkle. Rising red-carpet favorite Prabal Gurung delivered another collection sure to be snapped up by Hollywood’s hottest during New York Fashion Week today. His looks featured iridescent leather and sheer panels in a palette of black, ivory, and shades of blue, as well as a dose of glam rock thanks to gold lame and lurex. For his standout accessories, he teamed up with some heavy-hitters, including Linda Farrow for statement sunglasses, Fenton for chunky chokers, and Philip Treacy for hats. Max and Lubov Azria describe their latest collection for Hervé Léger as “a study in seduction and restraint.” The depiction of this was clear on the runway, with equestrian-inspired harnesses topping each of the label’s signature bandage dresses. Though, not every outfit looked like second skin—most flared and moved with the models. The designers’ horseback-riding inspiration also came alive with swingy fringe resembling horsehair (much like the sleek ponytails worn by the models), leather cuffs, and buckle-covered boots. The long gowns that closed the show looked ready for the red carpet, minus the harnesses, of course. See our favorite looks from the show in the gallery!
Designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of the celebrity-favorite label Rag & Bone mastered the layered look for fall 2012, showing off everything from blanket coats to shearling vests to colored fur. The rich palette featured burgundy, bronze, copper, forest green, and floral tapestry, on heavy fabrics such as tweed, brocade, and wool. Even the accessories—driving gloves, shearling bags, chunky platform boots—looked like they would keep you very, very warm. See our favorite looks from the collection in the gallery now!
