I’ve been wearing heels for quite a few years and wear them everyday for work (my highest being 5 inches). I run around comfortably, diving in and out of crowds with ease and I can keep up with the guys here on Capitol Hill when they trot around in their “flats” haha. Though I am only 23, I have never had a problem with heels. I’m an ex-ballet dancer so there’s not much more damage that can be done (pointe shoes in the sixth grade practically bound my feet). However, when I take my commute in flats, I am constantly twisting my ankle just walking across a crosswalk or popping my knee, which hurts like no body’s business. Also, flats have never really offered support for my high arches and wearing heels is just more natural for me (I enjoy the feeling of being in a constant releve). Of course, this is different for every woman, as most things in life are. It’s all about finding the balance between what is comfortable and necessary for you. I wouldn’t jump into a pair of 10-inch heels just because 5-inch ones are a breeze, that’s silly. In fact, when I started working last year, I would constantly switch to flats when running an errand. A year later and I’m easily leaving the flats behind.
