Oscar-winning actress and Lancôme ambassador Kate Winslet teamed-up with the cosmetic brand to create a special three-product line to benefit her new Golden Hat Foundation. After seeing an Icelandic documentary about autism, Winslet was moved to start the the charity to better the lives of children living with the disorder. (The hat concept was inspired by a poem written by a child who has autism.) “I walked away from the experience unable to let it go,” she told InStyle exclusively. But creating the charity was just a start. She’s also supporting it with her work. This April, Winslet will publish The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism ($20, amazon.com), a series of celebrity self-portraits and inspirational words. And this holiday season, she collaborated on Lancôme’s Golden Hat collection, which directly benefits the charity. “I took the idea to Lancôme and they said, ‘Let’s absolutely do it,’” Winslet said. “They’re very passionate about the charities they support.” Click “See the Photos” to check-out the gorgeous pieces and hear what Winslet loves about each one.
Based on what the color company predicts consumers want and need, Pantone annually forecasts the next year’s top hue—and for 2012, they’re thinking orange! Factors that went into the decision include runway looks, fabric shows, pop culture, and shoppers’ habits. Tangerine Tango also emerged as a clear winner because, as the Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, says, “There’s an element of encouragement with orange, it’s building on the ideas of courage and action, that we want to move on to better things.” Courage and action, all from one color? Yes please—that’s encouragement enough for us!
Swarovski Elements has asked 15 celebs and designers to re-create limited-edition Gaia+Gino vases using Swarovski crystals, with all the results being auctioned off online to benefit Housing Works. The one-of-a-kind looks are all pretty incredible, though our favorite has got to be the design from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who donated their vase—dressed in a beaded collar jacket and tulle skirt—under their Elizabeth and James label. Other celebs designing for the cause include Bethenny Frankel, Tinsley Mortimer, and Carson Kressley (who, to be fair has some real design chops). Click through a gallery to see which vase you’d bid on!
Vases are available at shop.housingworks.org through December, 20th.

Jennifer Connelly is 41 today! In celebration we’re taking a look back at the Oscar winner’s road from teen model to the face of Revlon, wife of Paul Bettany and queen of edgy, fashion-forward red carpet style. Happy Birthday!
“My mother says I didn’t open my eyes for eight days after I was born, but when I did, the first thing I saw was an engagement ring and I was hooked,” explained Elizabeth Taylor to a journalist who asked about her love of jewelry. Although she might have been joking, there is a lot of truth in her humor. Taylor’s collection is a sparkling scrapbook of her life from chock-full 1950s gold charm bracelets to a Loree Rodkin sapphire set she received from Elton John on her eightieth birthday. The most stunning pieces were gifts from her true love Richard Burton. Here we take a look at some of the best and the brightest jewels in the collection to be sold at Christie’s in New York on December 13 and 14.
