New York Holiday Window Round-Up

Dec 9, 2011 @ 4:39 pm

Christmastime in New York City means The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, The Rockettes and of course, holiday windows! This year, Barneys New York invited Lady Gaga to lend her artistic vision to their displays, with the wildest results showing up in “Gaga’s Boudoir,” where everything, from the drapes to a setee, is made from platinum hair.  A few blocks away at Bergdorf Goodman, the landscape designer David Hoey embraced the theme “Wish You Were Here,” creating a fantastic voyage through the store’s windows. In one tableaux, a white-clad mannequin floats amid a sea of dark, glittering underwater creatures, while in another, a mannequin in more exotic garb heads off on a circus-like safari (think lions and antelopes!).  Macy’s took the charitable route, partnering with the Make-a-Wish foundation to inspire their “We Grant Wishes” window, but also showed off some very ornate marionettes displaying the Jessica Simpson collection in another. Bloomingdales mixes nostalgia with some high tech social media: Each of their displays showcase a different vintage Bloomie’s holiday bag that inspires that window’s animated installment. But say cheese! Each window is outfitted with a camera that takes photos of onlookers and posts them to Bloomingdale’s Holiday Windows Facebook Gallery!

Salma Hayek’s Beauty Line Wins an Award!

Dec 9, 2011 @ 1:28 pm

Congratulations, Salma Hayek! At the 2011 WWD Beauty Inc. Awards, the actress’s Nuance beauty line was given the Mass Launch of the Year award. Nuance launched in August exclusively at CVS and was inspired by Hayek’s grandmother who created her own beauty products and studied at the Vichy labs in Paris. The actress turned beauty maven had a hands-on role in creating each product, drawing upon Native American and Mayan formulas for inspiration. “I am not easy. What can I say, I’m a double Virgo!” she told WWD. “Luckily, the labs have been very patient with me.” Nuance includes an impressive range of hair care, skincare and color cosmetics and is priced from $2.99 to $19.99. The line is available at CVS stores nationwide and online. Click through the gallery to see some of the products now and shop the full line at CVS!
