Runway Looks We Love: Roberto Cavalli

Sep 28, 2011 @ 11:15 am

If there’s something Roberto Cavalli loved to use in his spring 2012 collection just as much as his signature animal print—it’s gold sequins, and lots of them! For the label’s latest fashion show in Milan, the designer splashed the metallic paillettes on everything from dresses to jackets. Of course, there were a few pieces not decorated in sparkle, instead covered with unexpected combinations of floral and, of course, animal prints. See some of favorite looks from the collection in the gallery.

Lauren Conrad knows how to mix high and low for her accessories. Over the weekend, the reality-star-turned-designer toted a Chloe handbag, which is currently priced at $1,275 at bluefly.com (and that’s on sale). However, she finished her look with more wallet-friendly items, like gold metal frame Ray Ban sunglasses, available for $139 at ray-ban.com, and cute leopard flats that she designed for her LC Lauren Conrad line for Kohl’s. Pick up your own pair at kohls.com for $40, currently on sale from its original $55 price tag.

Gossip Girl: Should Blair Waldorf Wear This Dress for Her Royal Wedding?

Sep 27, 2011 @ 5:30 pm

Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) has one of the best storylines on Gossip Girlshe’s going to be a royal bride! During last night’s season premiere episode, we got a preview of her potential wedding gown—a scoop-neck design made with Chantilly lace, pearl buttons, and a crystal-encrusted waistline embellishment—when she wore it for a photo shoot. While the dress is an heirloom look once worn by her fiancé Prince Louis Grimaldi of Monaco’s mother and is being thrust upon her in the plotline, in real life it’s a creation by the label Theia. “It was an honor and a huge thrill to see the gorgeous Blair Waldorf looking radiant and regal in Theia,” the label’s creative director Don O’Neill (inset) told InStyle.com exclusively. “She looked every bit a royal bride.” Ultimately, the dress she will wear is still a pending issue… that is, if she walks down at all. Tell us: Do you think she will wear this look?

Runway Looks We Love: Missoni

Sep 27, 2011 @ 4:30 pm

Missoni shifted focus from its massive Target launch in the U.S. to its Milan Fashion Week show in Italy this week. For the lineup, designer Angela Missoni brightened up the label’s signature feel-good zigzags with vibrant shades of blue, yellow and purple. Fabrics mixed, like fringe, crochet, netting and knits, to create texture-heavy looks, while dashes of animal print provided a party-ready feel. Playful proportions came in the form of asymmetrical hemlines and huge ruffles on dresses, skirts, sweaters and swimsuits, and 3D flower-embellished platforms topped off the looks. Lea Michele Was Once Told Not to Wear Black

“You should never wear black.” That’s what Glee creator Ryan Murphy told his star Lea Michele. She didn’t listen, though! “One of my most memorable dresses was the Oscar de la Renta dress I wore for my first Golden Globes,” the actress told InStyle.com at the Variety Power of Women luncheon last week. “Ryan Murphy had told me, ‘Don’t wear black. You should never wear black.’ So my stylist pulled floral, beautiful colors,” she explained. “As I’m walking to the bathroom to try them on, I see the Oscar dress hanging up in her closet. I said ‘I’m wearing that.’ And I called Ryan, and said ‘Ryan, I’m wearing black!’” Michele hasn’t shied away from the color ever since, proof that you have to trust your own style instincts.
