Runway Looks We Love: DKNY

Sep 11, 2011 @ 10:10 pm

On today’s tenth anniversary of 9/11, Donna Karan fittingly showed a collection for DKNY that celebrated pure Americana. “DKNY pays homage to America’s modern spirit—always creative, expressive, and free,” the designer noted of her collection, which featured a patriotic palette of red, white, and blue. Splashes of pink and green interspersed throughout the lineup of easy-to-layer pieces, where an oversize tee complemented a sequin skirt. As for DKNY’s popular accessories, soft, wide-brim hats topped each look, and ankle-cuff platform wedges looked ideal for dashing around the city—perfect finishing touches for any on-the-go girl’s wardrobe. Runway Looks We Love: Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham’s collection showed off dresses for every occasion, from Sunday brunch to black-tie events. The palette—soft yellows, whites and grays—gave the collection a sense of freshness and serenity, while mandarin orange offered a jolt of brightness. Hardware studded clothing and accessories for a utilitarian chic look, and she catapulted outerwear to center stage with hooded parkas and evening coats. Beckham also introduced sportier new fabrics with this lineup, including techno-stretch and utility strapping. Beautiful handbags finished off the looks, with chain-strap scrunched-up clutches and oversize structured satchels. Runway Looks We Love: Alexander Wang

Sep 11, 2011 @ 11:00 am

Alexander Wang’s Spring 2012 collection embodies sporty chic to the extreme. “I was inspired by speed and fast sports like professional cycling and NASCAR racing,” the designer told us after his show. “You can incorporate these pieces into your daily wardrobe to give you an edge.” The athletic lineup included utility pockets, perforated gym bags, football jerseys worn as dresses, and even floral-printed helmets. But within the tough elements, pure sexiness emerged, like mesh bustiers paired with cargo pants and sheer cover-ups worn over vibrant swimwear. See our favorite looks from Alexander Wang’s collection in the gallery.
