Rooney Mara and KORA’s Necklace to Support Africa

Jun 23, 2011 @ 5:40 pm

Rooney Mara may be out of the spotlight right now as she gears up to promote her highly-anticipated movie The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo this December, but she’s still finding time to do charity work. Recently, Mara teamed up with KORA—a Los Angeles and East Africa-based jewelry company that creates pieces out of recycled objects—to promote this necklace made from recycled bone and brass (shown). KORA’s Maxandra Short and Amy Walker designed the piece, and 100% of proceeds will be donated to a charity close to Mara’s heart, Uweza, a non-profit organization dedicated to abolishing poverty in the Kibera section of Nairobi, Kenya. “I’m excited to be working with KORA to help bring attention to Uweza, an organization that does such good work and that I’m proud to be a part of,” Mara told InStyle. The necklace is available for $95 in silver or gold on KoraDesigns.com.

Jun 23, 2011 @ 5:00 pm

So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley is giving InStyle the inside scoop about her outfits this season! Read what she says about her looks below, and see all of her Season 8 outfits in the gallery!

“My vintage primrose dress would be perfect for sitting and drinking rose with a handsome suitor and maybe dancing until dawn (I’m thinking of La Colombe D’Or restaurant in Saint Paul de Vence in the South of France particularly!) I wanted the look to be Mediterranean, with a Sophia Loren-inspired black lined eye and messy Penelope Cruz hair. Shoes by Sergio Rossi reflected the feminine theme and Links of London jewelry completed the look.”

Both organizations are dedicated to preventing violence against women, and the grants were made as part of Avon’s Global Believe Fund, which supports women’s domestic violence shelters and agencies. “I believe we all have a responsibility to raise awareness about the violence that affects one in three women around the world, making it one of the most prevalent, yet underfunded global problems,” Witherspoon told InStyle exclusively. Want to help? Head over to Avon.com and pick up the 2011 Empowerment Bracelet for $10. Proceeds will go toward the Avon Foundation for programs aimed at ending violence against women.

Jun 23, 2011 @ 1:00 pm

Science confirms what we already knew—shopping makes you happy! In fact, 82% of those surveyed were totally happy post pick-me-up buy. Not surprisingly, clothing is the most popular mood booster, followed by food and electronics, and shoppers spend an average of $59.18 per retail therapy spending spree.
