Congratulations to Alyssa Campanella, the newly-crowned Miss USA 2011! The 21-year-old Miss California beat 50 other contestants at the live pageant last night, and we scored all the details about her winning look, created by designer Sherri Hill. “Alyssa broke all ‘pageant rules’ by wearing an unusual high fashion design,” Hill told InStyle.com exclusively today, “and choosing emerald green for competition rather than a more traditional pageant color.” Hill custom-made the look for Campanella—French beads, sequins and Swarovski crystals on tulle made up the bodice of the gown, while the skirt was crafted from silk taffeta, and fashioned with horsehair to give it an architectural shape. See the runners-up dresses in the gallery!

At first when we saw Alyssa’s competition dress we thought the skirt would not translate well on stage. To our surprise the dress was perfect for Alyssa. The fit was flawless enhancing her gorgeous figure. While the color complemented her skin tone an hair perfectly. Congrats to Alyssa and Sherri Hill for this fabulous winning dress!!

Loved the dress and love the girl. Alyssa deserved her crown but Sherri Hill is a sponsor of the pageant. I think it’s a bit unfair for a contestant to have such a close relationship with someone so intricately involved in the pageant itself (Alyssa is a model for Sherri Hill along with a few of the other contestants).
