Rachel Zoe’s ‘Push Present’: A 10-Carat Neil Lane Ring

May 9, 2011 @ 6:30 pm

Star stylist Rachel Zoe has a new favorite accessory—a 10-carat ring! When Zoe gave birth to son Skyler Morrison six weeks ago, her husband Rodger Berman surprised her with a cushion-cut diamond sparkler, which the couple calls her “push present.” “I got a Neil Lane ring from my husband!” Zoe told InStyle at IWC Schaffhausen and Peter Lindbergh’s “A Night in Portofino” exhibition opening recently. Then, she flashed us the rock: “I love it!” The new mom also got a slew of designer baby gifts from her fashion industry friends. ‘I got an Alexander McQueen diaper bag, I got a Gucci diaper bag. Georgina Chapman sent me an incredible shearling baby carrier. It’s like the coolest thing ever. Honestly, the most incredible baby gifts.” Little Skyler is already quite the fashionable tot—he even spent Mother’s Day hanging out with shoe designer Brian Atwood. “I’m so lucky! XoRZ,” Zoe Tweeted.

A new season of True Blood doesn’t return to HBO until the end of June, but there’s something to hold over die-hard fans (including us) in the meantime—handbags inspired by the show. Los Angeles company Hammitt teamed up with HBO to create a five-item collection, and each piece features details relating to the characters. “I tried to stay true to each character and hone in on their individual style and essence,” designer Sharon Rodriguez told InStyle. “As a huge fan of the show, I was ecstatic to be given the opportunity.” The options include a suede Sookie-inspired satchel, faux-fur Alcide handbag, riveted-leather Fangtasia bag (above), metallic black leather Layfayette bag, and studded Eric bag (our fave!). The pieces are available for pre-order now at store.HBO.com for $395 to $675. Kate Middleton’s Black Wedges: Where to Find Them!

May 9, 2011 @ 4:40 pm

While Kate Middleton wore a custom pair of heels for her royal nuptials, she prefers footwear that’s a bit more street-friendly—wedges! Her pair of choice: L.K. Bennett’s patent leather raffia shoes, which she wore for her dress rehearsal at Westminster Abbey and the day after the wedding to leave Buckingham Palace. In response to the shoes’ popularity, the brand is re-releasing the style, aptly named the “Kate,” and they will be available for £165 (or about $271) at L.K. Bennett stores in June. To find the British brand in the United States, head to Bloomingdale’s or its first and only standalone store in Chicago, which just opened in March of this year. Get your order in now, though, as The Daily Mail reported that there’s already a wait list! In addition to Middleton’s black pair, the wedges will also come in red and blue

Kate Middleton and Grace Kelly Used the Same French Lace Maker for Their Wedding Dresses

May 9, 2011 @ 3:40 pm

Now that Catherine Middleton’s wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen is seared into memory, we’re learning even more amazing details about the workmanship that went into producing it. The lace on Middleton’s bodice and the skirt incorporated both hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace, the Clarence House wrote, and the French lace came from the same company that produced the lace for Grace Kelly’s dress—Solstiss. The business’s workshop in Caudry, northern France produced 25 meters (or 82 feet) of lace that was used in the patterns for the lace and tulle of the gown. See behind-the-scenes photos of the making of Middleton’s lace in the gallery.

Kentucky Derby Hats: Kate Walsh Explains Her Choice

May 9, 2011 @ 1:45 pm

California girl Kate Walsh ventured over to Louisville, Kentucky for her very fist visit to the Kentucky Derby this weekend, and InStyle caught up with the actress as she made her final and most important outfit decision—the hat. “I want something simple, but elegant,” the Private Practice star told us over the phone. “I don’t want to have the hat that eclipses everything else, and I don’t want to look funereal.” She said she had several choices to pair with her white Max Mara dress, including toppers with veils, but it all came down to size and shape. “You want something that’s strong, but not too overwhelming,” she explained. “You don’t want to look like the crazy hat lady.” Walsh revealed her final choice—a game day decision—when she arrived at the Derby to host Mott’s Garden Blend Suite with a navy wide-brim hat with a single feather from Ariane Millinery.
