Met Gala 2011 Makeup Trend: Red Lipstick Rules!

May 3, 2011 @ 6:23 pm

Just when we thought brights like pink and coral were taking over as this season’s “It” colors, red lipstick makes a comeback at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala last night—bolder, braver, and more big-time than ever. Stars like Taylor Swift, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez chose rich, sanguine tones in a range of finishes—glossy, matte and semi-sheer. Click “See the Photos” to see all the stars who reigned in red lipstick, and get tips from their makeup artists on mastering the look yourself at home.

Pippa Middleton and the Royal Wedding Party Used Bobbi Brown Cosmetics!

May 3, 2011 @ 4:45 pm

It’s official: members of Kate Middleton’s bridal party used Bobbi Brown products! “We are proud to confirm that Bobbi Brown Cosmetics makeup artist Hannah Martin provided makeup artistry assistance to members of the bridal party for the Royal Wedding,” the brand confirmed in a statement released on Facebook this weekend. “We wish to respect the privacy of all those involved, and therefore will not be releasing further details.” We knew Middleton was a fan of the brand, as it was reported that she went shopping for the cosmetics and was taking makeup lessons from Arabella Preston prior to her big day. No word yet on whether Middleton herself used the products for her wedding, but if you’re eager to try something similar, Bobbi Brown released a face chart, above left, giving step-by-step instructions on how you can create a Royal Wedding-inspired look.

Dancing With the Stars Ralph Macchio and Hines Ward Tie for Top 6 Week!

May 3, 2011 @ 3:15 pm

The Dancing With the Stars competition is getting close—only six couples remain! In last night’s “Ballroom Greats” episode, Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward each led a group number to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R,” respectively. Both teams earned 30 points, leaving it up to the individual rounds, where the Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff duo (left) went flapper glam to tie seductively-stylish partners Hines Ward and Kym Johnson (right) with 66 out of 80 points each. And the scoreboard wasn’t the only place they were similar—both Johnson and Smirnoff wore elaborate hair accessories. “Everything is custom made-to-measure, every week,” said the show’s costume designer Randall Christensen. “We do have an arsenal of flowers, sequin trims, and more, as does the hair department. Between our two departments we really do have these ladies covered!” Fun fact: Christensen told us that Smirnoff’s gloves were made at the very last minute due to “not being able to get the right shade of green in ready-made gloves!” Click through to see all the looks from last night’s DWTS!
