Kate Middleton kept her wedding dress designer a secret since her engagement, and the world waited for her big reveal this morning. And what a reveal it was! The new Duchess of Cambridge wore a gown designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. “Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress,” the Clarence House said. It is made from hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace. She is wearing matching shoes by Alexander McQueen. The train is over six feet long. “The seamed pleating of the dress breaks the volume and give a great sweeping set of arcs to the train,” said InStyle‘s Fashion Director Hal Rubenstein. “Love, love, love it!” What do you think? Tell us in the comments! See more photos of the dress, from every angle, in the gallery.

I love this dress. Pure simplistic beauty. I was hoping for Frida for Gucci, but Sarah has done an amazing job at the helm of McQueen. McQueen for the soon to be Queen. (seems fitting) Kate looks stunning! Go Gucci Group!!

simply stunning

The wedding dress was beautiful and romantic, a modern version of Grace Kellys wedding dress. She looked so happy and radiant that she almost matched Grace Kellys beauty as well. She is without a doubt the loveliest ‘celebrity’ bride of recent times.

May the Lord keep and bless them both in Jesus Name… The Wedding dress is amazing and cheers to the designer.

Fabulous dress. Sarah Burton did a wonderful job. Alexander McQueen would have been very proud.

I think her dreams is beautiful and has so much style and class. REflects to another Princess Rainier of Monoco, Grace Kelly. Compare the dresses and you will see they do look similar. So what…. both beautiful, both beautiful princess.

So beautiful!

I thought Kate’s dress was inspired by Grace Kelly, but looking through other Royal Wedding pics, it is more similar to the American heiress’s dress (MARIE-CHANTAL MILLER ) who married married the crown prince of greece in 1995
the skirt is identical the only thing different is the neckline. See this link…http://www.people.com/people/package/gallery/0,,20395222_20395221,00.html?stitched#20796282

I’m so SO disappointed. Sarah Burton typically designs breath-taking dresses. Kate’s is so HO HUM. You could buy something like that off the rack.

I am so sick of young brides with fat arms stuffed into overdone strapless Vegas-like disasters. Here’s hoping Catherin Middleton’s exquisite retro choice brings back a little delicacy and good taste to wedding gowns. Hand made lace “Off the racK”? Did any of you nay-sayers get a look at that needlework and the gorgeous structure of the skirt back and train? I didn’t care for her evening gown that night but the wedding dress was perfect for the day. ANd her blue going away dress is modern, young and shows off her fantastic legs.

-GreybirdK on April 30th, 2011

Thought it was designed by Monique Lhuillier, similar to (Ms. Saigon) Ms. Lea Salonga’s wedding gown.

I liked the dress thought it was so wonderful, seems that all the dresses i have seen have been sleeveless, and with arms out, so the fact that she actually choose a dress which had sleeves was great, it made her look appropriate in a church setting, some of the gowns lately look not suited for the religious surroundings. And the kids and her sister were also nicely attired including the princes and the grandmother, and kates mother an father. Brought the fact that marriage is ordained of God back into the ceremony.

lovee the dresss. . . -&& she looked preddy to

I love the dress but was disappointed that it wasn’t more spectacular. There is nothing modern about this. I saw the exact same dress on a site with vintage dresses and it was from 1950′s. It was a London shop but had already been sold so I bet they just copied it. Only diff was the sleeves on ther vintage one was 3/4 length and Kate’s were long, to the wrist. I happen to love vintage dresses, wore one myself, so I look at those sites a lot. I think no one wants to admit that this was just a repro and not original at all. Didn’t like the veil either, it flattened her hair too much. Kate dresses much too old for her age and needs to find her own style. I hate to compare them, but people will and she won’t be the fashion icon Diana was.

Dress was very simple and elegant – brought back memories of my own wedding several yrs ago.
