Kate Middleton’s Wedding Evening Dress: Alexander McQueen!

Apr 29, 2011 @ 8:20 pm

After her wedding ceremony and luncheon, Catherine Middleton changed from her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress into an evening gown by the same designer for her nighttime reception hosted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace. The strapless satin gown featured a sweetheart neckline, circle skirt, and an embellished waistband. The new Duchess of Cambridge paired the dress with a cropped white mohair cardigan. Prince William changed from his Army uniform into a tuxedo. This morning, the couple left Buckingham Palace for a weekend getaway in the United Kingdom. The Prince will be returning to work as a search and rescue pilot and they will celebrate their honeymoon overseas at a later time, the Clarence House said in a statement.

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen: Shop the Collection!

Apr 29, 2011 @ 3:42 pm

Catherine Middleton, the new Duchess of Cambridge, arrived at her wedding to Prince William today in a gorgeous lace dress by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. And while her look was made completely custom by Burton—by hand—scoring a McQueen bridal look of your own isn’t an entirely far-fetched notion. The label’s latest on-sale offerings include silk-satin voluminous gowns with trains and light-as-air strapless and halter dresses. Middleton also wore McQueen shoes, and you can currently buy lucite heels, regal gold leaves, and perforated leather detail—statement footwear that would look lovely peeking out below a wedding dress hemline (like Middleton). See more shoppable sweet-meets-edgy Alexander McQueen dresses, shoes, jewelry, and accessories in the gallery. The collection is available now on Net-a-Porter.com and Zappos.com.

Exclusive: Kate Middleton’s Hairstylists Dish on Her Wedding Day Look!

Although genius hairstylists Richard Ward and James Pryce are still by Kate Middleton‘s side for the rest of her wedding day (and night), they managed to sneak us an email with the inside scoop about bride’s gorgeous down ‘do. Turns out, it was mostly her idea. “Catherine was very involved in her style and the look was her based on her personal preference,” they wrote to InStyle. “It was a matter of finding that balance between feeling natural and reflecting the occasion.” The style looks fairly simple, but the hairstylists noted that it was actually a thoughtfully-executed look. “The front was swept back in two sections on either side [of her head], and then twisted loosely and pinned gently at the back of the head,” they explained. “Her fringe was draped over her forehead to keep the style soft and romantic.”

Who Is Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen?

Apr 29, 2011 @ 12:33 pm

Catherine Middleton kept her wedding dress designer secret for months, but now the world knows it was Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen! So who is Miss Burton? The 36-year-old designer took the helm of the McQueen label after the founding designer’s untimely death early last year. She had worked for him for 14 years. Since then, Burton has carried on McQueen’s tradition of elaborate, fashion-forward, and avant-garde pieces. Burton first sparked royal wedding dress interest in February after showing a collection full of white gowns at Paris Fashion Week (left). And that’s not all. Find out where she studied, which other political women she dressed, and more about Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen in the gallery.
