The competition is heating up on American Idol, and Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart both brought out the feminine frocks on last night’s Carole King episode! We caught up with the show’s costume designer Soyon An for the inside scoop. “This dress was free and floaty, sparkly and cool,” An said of Reinhart’s fluttery Haute Hippie number (right). As for Lauren, the stylist settled on an asymmetrical Allen Schwartz dress (left). “It’s trendy, fun and girly,” An said of the look, which also included Wet Seal earrings and vintage boots.  Click through for more details about their outfits!

Lauren Conrad‘s new fashion line Paper Crown is coming to a store near you! The-reality-star-turned-fashion-designer just announced that her new line will be carried at Nordstrom, Ron Herman stores, and Planet Blue. Her first collection for fall, which we previewed earlier this year, will arrive in stores at the end of July. Conrad also showed up to an event this week, shown, wearing two never-before-seen pieces from her new line, a nude silk blouse named “Renoir” ($218) and a navy “Plath” overlay skirt ($248). These two items are part of her holiday 2011 collection, and will hit the stores mentioned above in mid-October. Are you excited for Lauren Conrad’s new collection?
