Jennifer Lopez’s American Idol Outfits: Top 9 Week!

Apr 18, 2011 @ 5:25 pm

Jennifer Lopez had her Twitter fans help her decide what to wear for the last two weeks of American Idol, and she’s listening to their advice! “What should I wear on @americanidol tonight? #creamwithgold or #sparklywithtulle?” she Tweeted before the Top 9 episode. She ended up choosing the cream with gold option, but she picked sparkly with tulle for the next time around, shown right. The feminine frock is by Georges Chakra Couture, made with Chantilly lace and a Swarovski crystal bodice. We love how she added a crystal barrette to match the dress! For elimination night, Lopez chose a golden bronze dress by Gucci, and added color by painting her lips an orange-red tint. “@jlo looks amazing!,” Tweeted Rob Zangardi, one half of her styling team, after the show. Zangardi put together the looks with styling partner Mariel Haenn.

Jane Birkin Auctioned Off Her Namesake Hermès Bag for Charity!

Apr 18, 2011 @ 2:30 pm

Jane Birkin auctioned off her Hermès Birkin bag (yes, the original) to benefit earthquake relief efforts in Japan! The worn-in purse, which Birkin decorated with stickers and talismans from her travels, fetched £100,100 on eBay this weekend—or about $162,840 at the current exchange rate, and all of the proceeds will go to the British Red Cross. “It’s very nice that everyone’s got one or wants one,” Birkin told Vogue. “I keep saying to Hermès to make it out of plastic or, even more fun, make it out of cardboard. Then it wouldn’t be so heavy.” That’s one way to shorten the wait list for the sought-after style!

Banana Republic’s Fall 2011 Collection

Apr 18, 2011 @ 1:35 pm

Banana Republic showed its new fall collection to fashion editors last week, and we’re sharing the preview of what to expect next season with you! The upcoming fall collection includes the company’s signature work-friendly basics, like tailored trousers and soft knits, as well as some new pieces like a gray leather jacket and pops of vibrant colors on purses and accessories. “The colors for fall were inspired by New England, where I have a house,” Simon Kneen, creative director of Banana Republic, told InStyle. “Don’t be afraid to mix colors—pair a bright yellow bag with a red belt.” But Kneen was careful not to let color overpower the traditional BR look. “The look is clean and simple,” he explained of the overall collection. See Banana Republic’s fall 2011 lineup for yourself in the gallery.

Kate Middleton Wedding Dress Update: Who Is Sophie Cranston of Libélula?

Apr 18, 2011 @ 11:20 am

In the guessing game of Who Will Design Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress?, we’ve heard predictions of Alice Temperley, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, Bruce Odefield, and more. Now, a new name has emerged—Sophie Cranston of Libélula, the Huffington Post reports. So, who Miss Cranston? She’s 34 and a rising star. She won the coveted Designer of the Year Award at London’s Graduate Fashion Week in 1999, and went on to work at Alexander McQueen and Alice Temperley before starting her own label Libélula (which means dragonfly in Spanish) in 2002. Middleton also wore a Libélula design to a friend’s wedding earlier this year (shown). We’ll know for sure whether it is Cranston or not when the Princess-in-waiting steps out of the royal limousine for her Westminster Abbey wedding on April 29th. Until then, let the guessing game go on. Who do you think the designer is?
