The bookish crowd was out in full force last night! Meanwhile, famous foodie Eva Longoria showed off her new cookbook at a Los Angeles area Barnes and Noble, and Maria Menounos signed copies of her how to have it all guide in New York City. Why Did Betsey Johnson Make a Barbie Hat?

Apr 14, 2011 @ 8:00 pm

Betsey Johnson designed some Mad-Hatter-worthy toppers for the Kentucky Derby, and two are being auctioned off for charity! The hats will be unveiled at the Kentucky Derby on May 6th and 7th, and Johnson, a breast cancer survivor, is donating the proceeds to The National Breast Cancer Coalition andGilda’s Club of Louisville. One of the hats up for grabs is the Barbie Hat, pictured, which Johnson says is “so much fun.” It will be auctioned off at Gilda’s Club. The other hat, a Rose Hat, includes “whimsical looking spiders and bugs” Johnson told WWD, and will be auctioned from April 26th to May 7th at BiddingforGood.com. Exact rules have not been finalized for either sale, but check the sites closer to Derby Day. Happy bidding!

Dancing With The Stars: The Scoop on Chelsea Kane’s Bewitching Makeup

Apr 14, 2011 @ 6:25 pm

Chelsea Kane rose to the top of the leaderboard on Dancing With the Stars this week after a bewitching performance of the waltz to the Harry Potter theme song “Hedwig’s Theme.” She joked that she went the non-traditional route with not only partner Mark Ballas’ choreography, but also her makeup! We caught up with the show’s makeup artist Melanie Mills for the inside scoop on how she created Kane’s look. “Because of the dance’s dark, magical flair, the makeup needed to reflect some surreal aspects,” Mills told us. “I applied crystals to the side of Kane’s face by hand, then used green and purple eye shadows around the crystals to create a fairy-like feel.” Mills blended the matte brown shadow with the shimmery green from the Anastasia Illumin8 palette in #2 ($40; sephora.com) to create an ivy-colored smokey eye, and finished Kane’s look by filling in her lips with plum liner.

Keep checking back for more exclusive beauty tips from Mills and the DWTS makeup team!

All My Children Canceled! Remembering Susan Lucci Through the Years

Apr 14, 2011 @ 4:52 pm

It’s a sad day for daytime TV: ABC just announced that it will cancel both All My Children and One Life to Live as of September 2011 and January 2012, respectively. That means we have to bid adieu to one of our favorite daytime characters of all time, All My Children’s Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci, who originated the role when the show premiered in 1970. Lucci made Emmy history in 1999 when she finally won her first award after 19 nominations. Lucci issued this statement after the cancellation announcement: “It’s been a fantastic journey,” she said. “I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.” Take a look at Susan Lucci’s most memorable looks in the gallery. Will you miss watching these two shows? Tell us in the comments!

Engaged: Harry Potter’s Bonnie Wright and Twilight’s Jamie Campbell Bower

Apr 14, 2011 @ 4:20 pm

Two of our favorite fantasy franchises collided: Bonnie Wright and Jamie Campbell Bower—otherwise known as Harry Potter’s Ginny Weasley and Twilight’s Caiusare engaged! The pair met in 2009 on the set of the final Harry Potter movies, where Bower, 22, played Dumbledore’s nemesis Gellert Grindelwald. Speculation that the couple got engaged first arose last year, but Bower just confirmed the news to iPad-only newspaper The Daily. “I’m engaged. I’m very happy,” he said of his redhead 20-year-old sweetheart. “It’s a wonderful, wonderful time.” The couple is still tight-lipped about wedding plans: Bower would only hint: “I won’t say when and I won’t say where… or how.” How? We’re intrigued—another British wedding to look forward to!

What It’s Like to Dress Michelle Obama

Apr 14, 2011 @ 1:50 pm

“Many people say that Michelle Obama is a fashion icon, but she’s not—she’s a style icon,” said Kate Betts, author of  Everyday Icon: Michelle Obama and the Power of Style, at a New York Public Library lecture about First Lady Style this week. “She’s not necessarily wearing the latest trends walking down the runway. She’s wearing what she wants to wear.” Betts, along with designers Rachel Roy, Sophie Theallet, and Peter Soronen went on to discuss what it’s like to dress the FLOTUS, as all three designers have in the past. Click through to read what they had to say about Mrs. Obama. Tell us: Do you think she is a style icon?
