Brooke Burke’s Dancing With the Stars Outfit

Apr 13, 2011 @ 6:00 pm

While we take an extra long look at the costumes of the Dancing With the Stars contestants every week, there’s another person on the show whose style is worth a double take—host Brooke Burke! And we got the inside scoop on what she wore for Monday’s episode. The blush and blue tulle one-shoulder gown is by Ecuadorian designer Gabriela Cadena. “I’m so happy to have Brooke Burke wear my dress,” Cadena told InStyle today. “She brings to life the freshness, sophistication and elegance that I dreamed when I designed the gown.” For Burke’s look, Cadena took the traditionally soft element of tulle and gave it some edge with chain accents on the single shoulder and belt. Keep checking back for more Brooke Burke style facts, as we’ll be following her looks all season!

California Warns Against Brazilian Blowouts

Apr 13, 2011 @ 2:21 pm

West Coast fans of the Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment are about to find out exactly what goes into their favorite salon service. A recent investigation by the state of California found that Brazilian Blowout’s Acai Professional Smoothing Solution contains around eight percent formaldehyde, the same percentage found in the embalming fluid used by funeral homes. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogenic, and salon specialists who work with the products frequently are especially at risk for exposure. Last week, the California Attorney General filed an injunction against Brazilian Blowout, seeking to require health warnings on the line, WWD reports. And meanwhile, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued a hazard alert yesterday, warning salon-goers about the health risks associated with using the products. Tell us, do these findings make you think twice about the treatment?

Dancing With the Stars: The Truth Behind Kirstie Alley’s Shoe Mishap

Apr 13, 2011 @ 12:30 pm

Kirstie Alley suffered another awkward moment on this week’s Dancing With the Stars performance episode. After last week’s tumbling fall when partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy‘s leg has a spasm, Alley had shoes problems this go around! In the middle of her waltz to “The Flower Duet,” her shoe came unbuckled. This was an unfortunate event, but not unlikely, the show’s costume designer Randall Christensen told InStyle. “It is a very rare occasion that a dance shoe comes off mid performance, but I have seen it happen many times in my career,” Christensen said. “Just like all of the other dancers, Kirstie got it together and continued to dance, with her shoe only half on. A credit to her experience performing, and her professionalism!” A credit indeed, as Alley was voted to stay in the running to compete for the title another week.
