According to tradition, a royal bride wears a tiara on her wedding day. Queen Elizabeth II wore a tiara for her wedding to the Duke of Edinburgh, as did Princess Diana, who wore the famous diamond Spencer tiara, a family heirloom piece. What tiara will princess-to-be Kate Middleton wear if she so chooses to for her April 29th nuptials to Prince William? A likely conclusion would be that the Queen will lend her a tiara from the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom collection. However, in anticipation of this momentous royal accessory, InStyle tapped the creative minds of some of our favorite jewelry designers to see what they would design for Middleton’s special day. See tiara sketches for Middleton from Chopard, Van Cleef & Arpels, Swarovski, Royal Asscher, and more in the gallery.

Everything about this wedding has been a re-hash of the other wedding: Diana and Charles. Even the engagement ring is Diana’s;!!! Ms. Middleton seems to be a pretty fashion savvy person – what a scoop if she were to actually just go ahead and show the dress- and the tiara – and the shoes – and anything else that sems to be a Secret. She very pretty – but so was Diana; Ms. Middleton, bless her heart, is Princess Bride-redux. Too bad. Every bride deserves to be singular and special.

And please, please tell me….how does one even get to submit one’s design???? The 14 that were presented were what they were, but my design is so much more unique/one of a kind and contemporary than any of the ones presented by these top designers. I have no real problem with their designs; my problem is, I guess, the difficulty of new designers getting noticed without an inside “nudge” or an accidental discovery. There are so, so many talented individuals out “here” that never get noticed because of the established names. Oh well, I’ll keep plugging away at my artwork and maybe, just maybe, someday I’ll be “discovered” and become a name that can just get by on my name and not on new and innovative/fresh ideas!
