Isaac Mizrahi Appeared on Cake Boss Last Night!

Mar 29, 2011 @ 5:21 pm

Isaac Mizrahi knows the perfect accessory to complement a spring dresscake! The designer appeared on last night’s fashion-themed episode of Cake Boss, where he tasked pastry chef Buddy Valastro with making seven fashion-inspired confections for his fall 2011 runway show, which filmed February 17th. Mizrahi wanted his models to carry the cakes down the catwalk, and the show’s dessert geniuses decided to make them out of styrofoam so they would be light enough to carry without toppling over. In case you missed it, catch a preview of Mizrahi critiquing Valastro’s sugary creations here. TLC will also replay the “Designer, Deadlines & Diagnosis” episode throughout the season. Jennifer Garner to Play Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple

Mar 29, 2011 @ 3:48 pm

Jennifer Garner is going to play Agatha Christie’s most famous amateur detective, Miss Marple! While Christie wrote the character as an elderly woman living in the fictional English village of St. Mary Mead, Disney is revamping the story to feature a younger, present-day Marple, Deadline reports. (Wardrobe update!) Marple was first played on the big screen in 1961 by Dame Margaret Rutherford, and Angela Lansbury took over the role in the 1980 film The Mirror Crack’d, which also starred Elizabeth Taylor. So far it’s unclear whether Garner’s film will be based on a particular Christie novels, but we do know that the screenwriter is Mark Frost, whose previous credits include Fantastic Four and TV’s Twin Peaks. We’re excited to see the Alias star put her sleuthing skills to work again!

Katie Holmes Hypes The Kennedys, Jake Gyllenhaal Flies Solo and More!

Mar 29, 2011 @ 3:01 pm

In Hollywood, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise made a red carpet appearance at the premiere of The Kennedys, where Holmes remembered getting into character to play legendary first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. “The wardrobe department worked very hard to re-create a lot of  Mrs. Kennedy’s iconic looks, including a hand-painted gown,” said Holmes, who looked every inch the style icon herself in a knitted lace dress from the Ralph Lauren Collection. “It was a lot of fun to do all of the fittings.” Across town, Jake Gyllenhaal arrived solo to a screening of Source Code but soon met up with onscreen flame Michelle Monaghan. In New York City, Michelle Williams sparked Chanel envy when she walked the press line at a screening of Meek’s Cutoff. See more photos from last night’s parties in the gallery.

Dancing With the Stars: Petra Nemcova’s Sexy Tear-Away Outfit Details!

Mar 29, 2011 @ 12:30 pm

The celebrity contestants on Dancing With the Stars upped their game during last night’s show with jives and quicksteps galore! And besides learning new moves, they’re also incorporating style tricks into their performances, such as model Petra Nemcova’s slick costume change in the middle of her jive routine to “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” The show’s costume designer Randall Christensen worked with Nemcova and her partner Dmitry Chaplin to create the look from scratch. “We did not want just a tear away skirt as it can sometimes be a bit predictable,” Christensen told InStyle. “We opted for the tear away to come from the empire area, so the midriff would be exposed afterwards.” However, the day of the show, he had to make a few emergency tweaks. “The dress was held together with snaps originally, but the snaps held too well, and we had to replace the snaps with Velcro after rehearsal,” Christensen said. “Petra was a bit concerned as to how strong the Velcro was and the amount of energy and strength needed to tear it away. But Petra is so dedicated and focused to what she is doing, and did not panic. What a dream lady to work with!” But will it take her to next week’s episode… we’ll see! Click through to see what the rest of the contestants wore on last night’s episode!
