Michelle Obama joined President Barack Obama during his tour of South America this week, and her wardrobe picks for her south-of-the-equator trip launched us right into spring fashion mode. After four days of traveling in Chile and Brazil, we spotted the First Lady in everything from Naeem Khan to Rachel Roy to Tracy Reese. She even caught on to biggest spring trend—bursts of bright color—by wearing an electric yellow Zero + Maria Cornejo top when she departed Chile on Air Force One today. And that’s not all! Celebrity stylist Brad Goreski may be a pro at dressing A-listers, but he recently admitted that he got a little starstruck when styling singer Adele for InStyle‘s April story about colorful violet eye makeup. “When Adele got to the shoot I kind of disappeared because I was nervous to meet her but I came out of hiding (for fear of seeming weird) and introduced myself,” the stylist wrote on his official Brad’s Blog. “When we were about to start the fitting, I did something I NEVER EVER do…I geeked out and told her what a super fan I am!!! She was very sweet and thanked me and I turned back into a professional stylist.” Success! Goreski styled the artist in lots of colorful jewelry and clothes—see the full shoot on page 346 of InStyle’s latest issue, on newsstands now.
Last night in London, Gwyneth Paltrow and Elle MacPherson got cocktail party chic to help Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier celebrate the grand re-opening of the luxe label’s flagship store. After the ribbon cutting, the crowd headed to the members-only Marks Club for some after-partying. Across the pond, Jennifer Hudson hit a high note in a sleek sequin dress at a bash for her new album, Kate Winslet went fashion-forward for the premiere of her new HBO mini-series, and Steven Tyler showed up to support daughter Liv at the debut of her super hero-themed flick. Today marks the ninth annual World Water Day, which is an event designed to focus attention on the impact of climate change, conflicts and natural disasters on urban water systems. Fashion designer Giorgio Armani is celebrating in his own way—by raising awareness about improving access to safe drinking water by partnering with Green Cross International and the Unicef Tap Project. “I have always been very sensitive to environmental issues,” Armani told the New York Times. “Especially those concerning water, an element that I love—regenerating, precious, and essential to life.” Through March 31st, the designer pledged to provide 210 pints of drinking water to children for every bottle of Acqua di Gio or Acqua di Gioia purchased. The bottles are available for $73 to $80 on Macys.com, and Armani also set up a Facebook page and a Web site to provide information for those who want to do good and smell good this spring.
