Mar 21, 2011 @ 4:12 pm

Over the weekend, more designers rolled out relief efforts to help the victims of Japan’s recent earthquake and tsunami. Kate Spade
created a special-edition tote for $18, the proceeds of which will benefit the Japanese Red Cross. The bag is available for pre-order on KateSpade.com, and it will be sold in the designer’s boutiques starting Friday. Rebecca Minkoff is also using purses to give back—$100 from the sale of every red bag will be donated to the Red Cross. Natori and Josie by Josie Natori will give 10% of all sales through April to the Red Cross, and Creed has also pledged to donate a portion of their online proceeds to the organization. Brooks Brothers formed a Customer Giving Campaign where 100% of donations will go to recovery and relief efforts, and the company’s Golden Fleece Foundation will match dollar for dollar up to $50,000.

Jessica Alba’s Prenatal Exercise Routine

Mar 21, 2011 @ 4:00 pm

Jessica Alba isn’t slacking on her regular workout routine just because she’s got a baby on board. Reebok master trainer Yumi Lee told Instyle how she helped the actress—currently pregnant with her second child—modify her regular routine to accommodate the bump. “I have Jessica doing exercises to keep her core strong and work on her balance,” Lee told us. “We do curls using a stability ball, single leg balance movements and compound moves like squat thrusters.” Lee said Alba enjoys a simple plank exercise using a stability ball, which helps maximize muscle tone while improving balance. Maksim Chmerkovskiy on What to Expect from Kirstie Alley on Dancing With the Stars!

Mar 21, 2011 @ 2:53 pm

How does Dancing With the Stars professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy describe the chemistry between him and his partner Kirstie Alley? “Amazing!” he told InStyle when we caught up with him in Los Angeles recently. Surely, the Chmerkovskiy and Alley duo is one of the most anticipated couples to watch during the premiere of the 12th season on ABC tonight, and Chmerkovskiy is going to play to the crowd. “The season’s going amazing, rehearsals are phenomenal,” he continued. “The strength for her is that she wants to do it, she wants to dance. She just loves the idea of it, she loves the movement, shedding off weight.” And she has—costume designer Randall Christensen told us Alley lost at least 16 pounds so far. “She’s the easiest person to change,” Chmerkovskiy said. “People with stuff on them that shouldn’t have been there to begin with are the easiest to change. It just requires their will and my will, and we’ve both have that.” So what dance will they blow you away with? “The cha-cha!” he said. “And she’s miles beyond what I expected.” We can’t wait!

Limitless Star Abbie Cornish’s Secret Talent: Graffiti Artist

Mar 21, 2011 @ 12:17 pm
Abbie cornishAndreas Sjodin

Abbie Cornish stars alongside Bradley Cooper and Robert de Niro in the adrenaline-fueled thriller Limitless, which took in $19 million over opening weekend. Not only can the Australian actress take on adventure with her movies, she also does in real life, as she expresses herself rapping, deejaying, break-dancing, and creating graffiti art under her alter-ego tag name Dusk. “These things have been with me my whole life,” Cornish told InStyle for our April issue, adding that her older brother introduced her to hip hop as a teen. “I’m lucky I have plenty of ways to let it all out.” (She admitted to tagging a French railway station on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last year.) As for why she chose the name Dusk, it’s for her favorite time of day. “I think sunrise, sunset, the shifting of seasons, and the stars play a huge role in life,” she said. “When you see a beautiful sunset, it just changes your mood.” Check out more of Cornish’s exclusive interview, artwork, and photos on page 336 of InStyle‘s April issue, on newsstands now.

Charlie’s Angels First Look: Minka Kelly, Rachel Taylor, Annie Ilonzeh on Set!

Mar 21, 2011 @ 11:04 am

Charlie’s Angels are back! ABC is filming a pilot of the show in Miami right now, starring a new set of Angels: Rachael Taylor, Annie Ilonzeh, and Minka Kelly. There’s something about girls kicking ass that just appeals to my personal taste at the moment,” Taylor told TV Guide. The women will play a former Marine weapons expert, con artist, and a martial artist, EW reports. Drew Barrymore is one of the show’s executive producers, familiar with the franchise as she starred in two Angels movies in 2000 and 2003. It’s still unknown if the show will get picked up by the network, though with this early preview from on set, it looks like the coordinating outfits are already fun to watch. Check out more photos in the gallery.
