Michelle Obama State of the UnionJim Young/Landov

The answer is Rachel Roy. The New York designer created the silver silk shift dress that First Lady Michelle Obama wore for the President’s State of the Union address in Washington, D.C. last night. She accessorized with drop earrings and stacked lucite bracelets, and she also pinned on a black and white ribbon in memory of the Tuscon shootings. “The First Lady looked picturesque and elegant at last night’s State of the Union Address,” Roy told InStyle exclusively of seeing her design on Michelle Obama. “I am humbled by the tremendous support she has shown me and it is always the highest honor to have her wear one of my designs.” Obama has worn Roy’s designs more than eight times for public appearances during her husband’s presidency.

Ugh… I think she has one of the worst fashion styles of any First Lady. She wears styles that are very unflattering to her and either looks frumpy or trashy. Even Barbara Bush dressed better.

That shape dress does nothing for her figure.

Not the best thing I have ever seen. Mrs. Obama has worn better styles for her figure. If I was her I would have gone with a plain suit instead of the ill-fitting shift. Probably would have looked great on someone else.

There is nothing Elegant about this dress !! I made this exact dress in sewing class 20 yrs ago LMAO What a Joke ! Nothing this woman wears has shown any elegance or style IMO

I think Mrs. Obama is the best dressed since Mrs. Kennedy! Rachel Roy is an amazing designer, but this is not her best work. At the same time, the media and public go crazy to see what she is wearing which at times overshadows the importance of the event. Therefore, I can understand the toned down subdued nature for the State of the Union! But she still looked classy and graceful! Heck she could wear a paper bag and still be a woman with substance, class and grace! But hands down, Mrs. Obama not only rocks as the First Lady, but she rocks the heck out of her clothes! Love her!!!!

What bitter times these are when hatred for a person or a party is so thinly veiled in a fashion critique. Nothing Mrs. Obama has worn since she has been in office could possibly be described as trashy except by those who are out to portray her as so. True, this is not her best look, but it’s also a tough angle, I think. Mrs. Obama is typically elegance personified. If you don’t think so, then you’re not paying very close attention, neither to her style nor to her character.

this dress actually looked better on TV. this is an unflattering picture. But i have a feeling the person who called her trashy, would have hated whatever she had on.
