Natalie Portman wowed last night in her first public appearance since the announcement of her engagement and pregnancy. The Black Swan star wore a lovely loose dress by Jason Wu as she took to the stage to present an award at the People’s Choice Awards. The designer, whose celebrity fans also include Michelle Obama, Reese Witherspoon and Michelle Williams, created the violet and teal dress for his pre-fall 2011 collection. “I loved the softness and femininity of the silk chiffon tiered dress on Natalie,” Wu told InStyle after the ceremony. “She looked effortlessly chic.” Agreed!

See Jessica Szohr’s Paint-Only Swimsuit for SoBe

Jessica Szohr stripped down to the buff and posed in nothing but body paint as the new celebrity face for the SoBe Skinsuit campaign. And saying yes to the revealing photos was a no-brainer for the Gossip Girl star. “Ashley Greene [last year’s SoBe Skinsuit model] is one of my best friends and she told me all about it,” Szohr told InStyle exclusively. “My body was a canvas and it was all very artistic.” Indeed, Szohr had to stand for five hours and lie down for another five to have her “swimsuit” painted on. “It was ticklish in certain areas, but when I was laying down I napped.” She also boosted her fitness routine to prepare. “My uncle owns a gym in Wisconsin, and he came out to New York to train me,” she said. Her regimen included cardio and weightlifting in the weeks leading up to the Costa Rica photo shoot. The full campaign launches in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, available February 15.

New Details About Lauren Conrad’s Upcoming Collection!

Lauren Conrad announced plans to launch a contemporary clothing line with her friends late last summer, and now she’s hard at work on the collection. “It’s doing really well,” she told us last night at the CoverGirl party in Los Angeles. “It’s a lot of masculine and feminine put together. We did some really great woven kind of suitings. My favorite piece is a tiered chiffon maxi. It’s just so romantic and I love it.” She also said her new line reflects her growth as a designer. “I pay a lot more attention to fit,” Conrad told us. “It’s become more important, especially as I’ve learned about the process, like how off-the-rack clothing isn’t meant to fit every body, and how it’s so important to take your things to a tailor and have little things altered.” We can’t wait to see the whole collection when it debuts in the coming months!

The People’s Choice Awards kicked off awards season last night with a burst of shine. Kristen Stewart tried the metallic trend with a gold Reem Acra look, Kim Kardashian opted for a strapless Catherine Malandrino dress, Vanessa Williams went for a darker hue in a dress by Tadashi Shoji and Lisa Edelstein chose a silver look by Farah Angsana, which shimmered as she accepted her award for Favorite TV Drama Actress. “I’ve never been nominated before, so I’m really honored,” she told us before the show. “What’s special is that it’s the fans voting.” And her fans often have interesting questions when they meet her. “One woman asked me if I wore aging makeup and a fat suit on television,” Edelstein said. “Which the answer is ‘no’ to both.” See all the red carpet looks from the People’s Choice Awards—including Jennifer Aniston, Natalie Portman and Katy Perry—in the gallery.

And now that the temperatures dropped, we caught up with the gorgeous celebrities at the CoverGirl 50th anniversary party in Los Angeles last night to find out their winter beauty secrets. “Always a little concealer,” Drew Barrymore told us of her signature beauty look (no matter the season!). “And always a ton of cover up stuff.” Although Barrymore, who wore a Jil Sander dress, Hunting Season clutch and a Lucifer vir Honestus ring, said it goes beyond that. “But, beauty is within. I don’t care if you’re the most attractive person on the planet. If you’re not good on the inside, it will show.
