Julie Chaiken on Relaunching Chaiken and Capone

Jan 4, 2011 @ 5:08 pm

Relaunch alert! Chaiken and Capone, a label known for its tailored pants, is coming back. So, why now? Call it good timing. “As denim’s dominance over the market has begun to fade, I found this the perfect time to come in with the perfect pant,” designer Julie Chaiken (inset) told us when we caught up with her today. Chaiken, who bought out partner Pamela Capone in 1998 and had stopped using the name Chaiken and Capone, will relaunch the label with Bermuda shorts, blazers, skirts, dresses and pants (left). “The line has grown and evolved, but it is generally still speaking to the same customer,” she said. “And I have expanded the scope of the design to fit a bit of a broader audience.” That means you can expect to see some of her classics, only reworked with new fits, both tight and loose. Check out the revived Chaiken and Capone when it hits Barney’s Co-op and Cusp stores next month.

Get a Wedding Dress Like Carrie Underwood’s for Less

Jan 4, 2011 @ 3:18 pm

For brides who dream of walking down the aisle in a designer gown—like Carrie Underwood‘s strapless Monique Lhuillier—but don’t want to pay full price, the Internet may hold your answer. Rent the Runway announced it would launch a bridesmaids’ dress rental service this month, and a new flash sale bridal site named The Aisle New York (like a Gilt.com and RueLaLa.com), just launched this week. Already the site offers gowns, veils, shoes and jewelry, including dresses by Lhuillier (dress shown is $2,899, down from $4,840) and Angel Sanchez, plus Oscar de la Renta accessories, and a percentage of each sale goes to charity. Sure you can’t try anything on (though you can make returns for a fee), but it’s definitely a new way to approach saying yes to a dress. Tell us: Would you rent or buy your wedding gown?

See Ivanka Trump’s New Shoe Collection

Jan 4, 2011 @ 1:55 pm

Ivanka Trump already successfully launched a jewelry line and a handbag line, and now she turned her attention to shoes. After announcing her new business venture last year, Trump’s first-ever footwear collection is now in stores. The spring line ranges from classic pumps and flats to embellished stilettos and heels, and she also included a series of white pairs, perfect for those shopping for bridal looks. “The most exciting part of this venture is actually seeing women wearing my shoes,” Trump told us. “Just the other day, I saw a woman on Fifth Avenue wearing a pair of pumps from my collection. She looked great and so stylish—it was inspiring!” The shoes—which Trump wore on this season of The Apprentice—are available at Nordstrom and online. The best part? Every style is under $200. See photos of Ivanka Trump’s new shoe collection in the gallery.
