Natalie Portman’s Custom Dior Vegan Shoes

Dec 10, 2010 @ 5:24 pm

While Natalie Portman’s latest movie, Black Swan, opens nationwide tonight, the actress made the rounds in New York this week for something other than the buzzy ballerina film: Christian Dior named her the new face of its Miss Dior Cherie fragrance! And Portman didn’t have to sacrifice her strict vegan values for the gig. “One of the things that’s been so nice is that Dior made all of the shoes for me with no animals and no leather or anything, because I don’t wear any leather,” Portman told WWD of her wardrobe in the Sofia Coppola-directed fragrance commercials. “They remade all my shoes so I can wear Dior shoes without taking lives.” What a great way to be socially-conscious and stylish.

Dec 10, 2010 @ 3:31 pm

Nicole Richie is set to wed longtime boyfriend Joel Madden in a small ceremony at dad Lionel Richie’s Beverly Hills estate this weekend. So what will she wear? Right now, it’s widely speculated that the 29-year-old mother of two will choose a Marchesa gown (though a vintage Chanel dress is also reportedly in the running). Richie is a big fan of the line, designed by InStyle contributors Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman; she’s seen here in a dress from their Fall 2009 collection. InStyle Decorates the State Department’s Diplomatic Reception Rooms

Dec 10, 2010 @ 1:49 pm

InStyle partnered with the State Department to decorate its Diplomatic Reception Rooms for the holiday season and the results are stunning. “[The rooms] are one of the hidden gems of Washington, playing host to Presidents and Prime Ministers from around the world and showcasing the best of our nation’s heritage,” said Ambassador Capricia Penavic Marshall, Chief of Protocol of the United States. InStyle brought in famed event planner David Stark to come up with elegant holiday decorations. “The rooms have historical significance and are highly utilized so it was important for us to enhance the beauty already there,” InStyle editor Ariel Foxman said. “David created a gorgeous, modern winter wonderland that is both stylish and functional. It’s a living, breathing project and so much more fulfilling to know it will be enjoyed by others.” Stark used everyday materials like ribbon and wrapping paper to design extraordinary decorations like the wreath and archway (right). The rooms are open for public tours, but in case you don’t have a chance to get to Washington D.C., click on the gallery for an exclusive sneak peek. Plus, get tips from Stark for ways to incorporate these décor ideas into your own home this season!

Celebrities are loving this hand-stitched red lace look from Dolce & Gabbana‘s cruise collection: Christina Aguilera rocked the dress at a Burlesque event in Madrid on December 8th; Isla Fisher wore it to the premiere of Burke & Hare in London on October 25th, and Juliette Lewis slipped on a similar version—hers featured a scalloped hem—on October 12th in New York. We think it’s just holiday party perfect.

Honeysuckle: 2011′s Color of the Year

Dec 10, 2010 @ 11:06 am

Earlier this year, the Pantone Color Institute named the top colors for 2011, including colors like beeswax yellow, regatta blue and peapod green. But now, they’ve narrowed the list down to one, predicted to be the hottest hue next year—honeysuckle (mimosa and turquoise were previous number-one colors, in 2009 and 2010, respectively). “Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going—perfect to ward off the blues,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. No need to tell Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, Julianne Moore and other celebrities how hot honeysuckle is—they’ve been spotted rocking the pinkish-coral hue on the red carpet all year long. Trendsetters, they are. Click on the gallery below to see more celebrities in honeysuckle.
