Get a Party Dress Inspired by Carrie Bradshaw

Nov 30, 2010 @ 5:17 pm

The following is a guest post from one of our favorite blogs, DecadesTwo.1.

Picking a favorite style moment from Sex and the City is the fashionistas needle in the haystack. But let’s just say the pink party dress gifted to Carrie by Aleksandr Petrovsky in the last season came pretty darn close. It was everything the six-year-old girl inside us wanted: feminine, elegant, and crafted in that perfect shade of petal pink. So, when one of our consignors brought us this number by Oscar de la Renta (right) we flipped. Designed in a similar vein as the SATC number, it’s the ultimate holiday party dress! Pair it with a gem-encrusted mini-audiere and black flats and you’re good to go—or shall we say, you’re pretty in pink!

InStyle designer (and part-time blogger) Jenni Radosevich offers up easy, step-by-step directions in this month’s December issue (page 96) to add a bit of glitz to your favorite sweater or ballet flats.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 1. A cotton cardigan, plain flats, chain from a hardware or trimming store, pliers, and clear, waterproof glue.

How-To:

  • 2. Measure along the edge of your piece to determine the length of chain required.
  • 3. Apply glue to clothing item in 2-inch increments. Attach trim, and hold in place for five seconds to secure. Repeat until the perimeter is covered. Use pliers to connect chain ends. Let dry for an hour.

Natalie Portman’s Black Swan Workout Schedule

Nov 30, 2010 @ 11:52 am

At last night’s Gotham Independent Film Awards, Natalie Portman arrived looking totally polished in a Lanvin for H&M dress and Tiffany & Co. earrings. And according to the star, her taut figure is the result of her demanding role as a ballerina in Black Swan, which hits theaters Friday: “I’d spend a whole day working out. I’ve never done that much training in my life—5 to 8 hours a day! It was hard, but so rewarding.” Once the film wrapped, however, the actress treated herself to a breather: “Oh, I totally stopped exercising, and I started eating like a crazy person. I was like, okay, I can take it easy now.” Cheers to that!
