I always have trouble find pants that flatter my figure. I’m pear shaped with a small waist and bust, with proportionally larger hips. Help me InStyle!

-Jennifer on October 20th, 2010

I’m 5’9 so finding pants is difficult. My legs are very long and I have a short torso so evening out those proportions are difficult. And finding a nice, button down shirt is a forever challenge because I can never find one long enough for my arms.

-Lindsay on October 20th, 2010

I have a triangular shape: broad and a bit stooped shoulders, very narrow hips, a short torso and long skinny legs with a flat butt. Finding the right clothing has always been a challenged. Especially after I had a boob job to balance my broad shoulders (which worked very well) but clothes are still hard to find. Even pants. The waist fits but most shapes are curvy so it sags in my hips/butt area. Decidedly very hard.

-maria on October 20th, 2010

Is it possible to have a combination of body type? I think I’m a pear/athletic shape, but I’m barely 5’4″, so I’m petite, too? And how many body types are there?

-Cassie on October 20th, 2010

I have a belly like a pregnant lady (due to a medical condition) and a booty to go with it. NOTHING fits like it’s supposed to. please help. i’m really tired of being asked if i’m pregnant.

-Kathy on October 20th, 2010

I am 5’9” with a long torso, small waist, wide hips and athletic legs. I usually stick to straight leg pants, but nothing too tight. It’s easy to find tops, but always a challenge to match them with the correct pair of pants or skirt.

-Lauren on October 20th, 2010

I’m plus size (26/28), very busty (46M), and short (5’3″). Help!!!!!!

-Jessica on October 20th, 2010

I have small boobs, but am quite tall and slim. Maybe I could compare myself to Kristen Stewart, just in a taller version, and with little larger hips than her. How should I dress?

-Olivia on October 20th, 2010

height: 5’2″; vital stats: 32-28-34; weight: 49kgs; problem area: fat thighs. any suggestions?

-Vinnie on October 20th, 2010

I’m 4’10 and have a short torso and kinda pear shaped. Its hard for me to find tops that are flattering without cutting me in half or making me look fat. Also its hard for me to find jeans that fit perfectly because I’m short and have a small waist with a nice size butt. How should I dress?

-jasmyne on October 20th, 2010

I’ve a large and long upper body (broad shoulders and large chest) and my back has a lot of extra fat which makes tops and dresses hard to fit. I also like to use belts to cinch my clothes because I do have a slight waist, but what size should I stick with? Skinny, wide?

-Nalay on October 20th, 2010

I’m a short, pear-shaped girl, i’m 20 and with olive skin, and I’ve been lately searching for an LBD and a day-dress, I adore your style tips but many of the ones regarding petite persons doesn’t get along with the ones for pear-shaped girls, I really need your help InStyle thankyou soo much!!

-Gabriella on October 20th, 2010

Hi I´m 5’5″, kind of pear shaped, i have wide hips and fat thighs, i hate how my knees look with skirts and my shoulders are a little broad but i don´t have a small waist, i have some stomach rolls that´s because i´m kin of chubby i´m kinda chubby

-Lucía on October 20th, 2010

I’m 5’3 with small chest and waist. The problem I have is I have a butt and big thighs so finding jeans/pants is hard since it always fits the waist if/when I can pull it up or it’s too big in the waist when the butt fits right. I also have big calves so I’ve been having trouble finding tall boots that fit well. Please help!!

-Jane on October 20th, 2010

I am 5’8 and in good shape, but all my excess weight collects in my stomach, making me look like I’m pregnant. I’ve seen lots of “tips” saying I should wear empire waisted shirts, but those make me look MORE pregnant. I get asked, at the very least, once a month when I’m due. Please help! It’s really damaging my self-esteem!

-Lauren on October 20th, 2010

I’m 5’2″ with a relatively slim upper body but very very stocky legs (my calves are about 15 inches…)! My legs are also very short, just a little longer than my upper half (torso and head). Is there a way to make me look better proportioned and slimmer?

-Tina on October 20th, 2010

I’m 5’1 with a extremely small frame. My measurements are 33-23-34. I have a noticeable waist, but no curves to help out. I also have very skinny legs. How can I dress to create more curves?

-Emilie on October 20th, 2010

I’m a 21 year old with a slightly hour glass figure (just a little less curve-atious than Christina Hendricks) and I’m really not sure how to dress myself to accentuate it. I want to embrace the shape that I have but that is difficult when I feel like I don’t know what to do with it!

-Nicole on October 20th, 2010

I am pettite with short legs. What can make me look taller besides heels.

-Crissy on October 20th, 2010

I’m 5’6″, but have the hardest time finding trendy clothes that look right on my frame. I have narrow shoulders, a big chest, a bit of pudge on the waist and scrawny legs. What will make my bottom-half look more proportional to my top-half and smooth out my tummy problem area? Will I ever be able to pull off skinny pants, as they always seem to make me look top heavy?

-Leah on October 20th, 2010

It’s not so much my figure, but finding a style to fit my lifestyle! I am a 33 year-old woman with 2 kids. I have my own business, work from home and visit with clients outside of my office quite often. Here’s the thing! Every time I mention I am a mother, someone wants to stick me in black pants and a tank top. Boring, lifeless and so not creative! I want to stick out, but not in a tacky way! HELP!

I love the artsy look of Anthropologie, but sometimes cannot afford a $150 skirt. Suggestions??

Thanks!
Elizabeth

I have long skinny limbs with a short thick torso and a big tummy. (I think similar to Lindsey above.) How can I dress to look balanced and hide the tummy. Looser tops plus wide-leg pants make me look balanced but also make me look huge and sloppy!

-Rose on October 21st, 2010

I’m 5’2” with broad shoulders and a large bust for my size. Otherwise I love my figure, but how can I dress to keep my proportions balanced? Also, any tips to look taller WITHOUT resorting to heels would be great–I know they’re an instant fix, but they’re killer if you have to do a lot of walking like I do!!

-Anne on October 21st, 2010

I’m 5’3 and have a short athletic build. I have somewhat broad shoulders with a slightly short torso and muscular legs from playing soccer all through school and college. I hate having to wear heels in order elongate my legs and hate having to wear low-rise jeans to elongate my torso! Petites tend to be too short (both tops and bottoms) and regular about 2 inches too long so I get just about everything tailored. For jeans I usually buy a size up to fit my thighs and am left looking like my jeans are way too wide on the bottom or with a gap the waist. I guess my question is how can I look taller without having to wear heels all while slimming my legs and making my legs more proportioned to the rest of my body. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I am 5’8″ tall 62 years young, with an apple figure 42 D bust size 18 .. had a gastric band last year lost 45 pounds have 30 to go. Tummy won’t budge yet (had four kids in the 70′s) and anything with an empire waist DOES make me look pregnant. Am I doomed to skirts with overblouses or jeans with overblouses? I know not to wear stripes horizontally but am not sure about size of patterns? solids only? HELP !!!! age appropriate but not too old lady..I am young a heart and LOVE colors!

-Joanne on October 24th, 2010

I’m really CLUELESS on what to wear! I’m 20 years old, 5″1 with a vital stat of 30-24-34. I’m pear shaped & small. What should I wear to balance out my top & bottom while elongating me? Help instyle

-lissam on October 25th, 2010

I am petite with a high waist. The top half of my body is about a size smaller than the bottom half. Also, several years ago I lost 70 pounds off my 130-pound frame. The weight loss left me with sagging, the worst of which is in my lower abdomen, where I have an exaggerated pot-belly. Yuck! I am 39 years old and comfort is a BIG factor to me, but of course I want to look good, too. Help!

-Jamie H. on October 25th, 2010

I’m very short (5’0) and I’m not stick thin. I have a belly, I have a wide back, not-so-skinny arms, but my legs are pretty toned. Whenever I dress up, I feel like I’m hidden underneath all that mess. I usually can’t fit into a small sized dress due to my chest/back circumference. I feel like I’m top heavy, but my body is meant to wear a small. Any other size seems to overwhelm my small stature. How do I fix this without getting my clothes tailored?
I really don’t know how to dress myself sometimes because I’m a short woman with curves!

-June on October 25th, 2010

I am cuvy, guitar shaped, with long legs and relatively small over body, bright hips, and big bust. Help!!!

-Lina on October 26th, 2010

I’m 43yrs old, 5’2″, and have a very curvy figure that I love. I’m also in a wheel chair. How do I show off my curves while having to always be sitting? I love my shape but no matter what I seem to wear, my curves disappear in the chair. HELP!

-Dawn Asche on October 26th, 2010

Hi, I’m 5 foot 6 and I have long legs but almost no torso. My hips are actually largest at the top, which makes me look thick around the waist even though I try to stay in shape. My natural waist is small which makes my hips look even larger, any tips for dressing myself so I look curvyish instead of thick?
Thanks!

-Christine on October 26th, 2010

I don’t even know what I am. I’m 21 and 110lbs. I’m not quite 5’1”. I have a small bust (32A)with larger hips and thighs. I also have a bubble butt so it makes pants shopping a problem. Also I’m severely disproportionate. I have really long legs and a short torso. The ratio legs to torso is 1.6:1.I’m a fairly skinny person though. What would my shape even be called and what styles can help me even it out? I see so many hints on how to fix one problem but how do you work with so many?

I am 5’2″ and since my hysterectomy last year (not a candidate for hormone replacement) have gained so much weight…I am 165 lbs., and my abdomen is very distended, my arms have gotten bigger, as well as my thighs and buttocks…it is a strange shape, that fits into no specific category…just a blob that fits into nothing…and no matter what I do, cannot lose any weight…please help!!
