The MTV Video Music Awards are known for not playing by the same rules as other awards shows. True to form, this year’s VMAs started with a fresh perspective: a bright white carpet, and new host in Chelsea Handler. The night’s most-nominated rule-breaker Lady Gaga set the white carpet ablaze when she stepped out in a stunning look from Alexander McQueen’s final collection, accessorized with a gilded feather mohawk headpiece. After walking the red carpet at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of the Warner Brothers crime thriller The Town, the film’s stars headed to Toronto hotspot Ame for a late-night fete. “I am so happy to be here celebrating with everyone,” said Blake Lively (in Chanel), who engaged in some girl talk with Jen Garner, wife of Lively’s co-star and director, Ben Affleck. “This was a difficult film to make and I’m so proud of it.” Also on hand to mark the occasion, The Town‘s Jon Hamm and Jeremy Renner, who chilled out with friends like Robin Wright, Edward Norton and Justin Long on the restaurant’s kimono-covered banquets until the wee hours of the morning. “These don’t hurt at all!” said Lively, perfectly poised on her cherry red Louboutins after a full night of mingling. “And even if they did, it’s worth it!” Click on to see more photos.
I love the white-on-white textures of the Alexander Wang show, especially the cap-sleeve cropped jacket, tunic and wide-leg trousers with cargo pockets. The proportions were perfect, plus wide-leg pants are interesting again after so many seasons of leggings and skinny pants. He got it just right!

The new looks certainly have the same womanly appeal that draws sexy stars like Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow and Eva Longoria Parker to wear Beckham’s designs, but even more exciting is the premiere of handbags to the label—another sure-fire hit with Beckham’s celebrity fans.
