Nicole Richie has her hands full fashion-wise, with two successful collections to her name: Winter Kate, a contemporary ready-to-wear collection, and House of Harlow 1960, a line of costume jewelry and shoes. We sat down with Richie to get the scoop on her new spring collections, her styling tricks  and the plausibility of a children’s line in the near future. (Plus, check out our exclusive preview of the Winter Kate lookbook, above!)

InStyle.com: What was your inspiration for the Spring 2011 Winter Kate collection?

Nicole Richie: A lot of the inspiration was drawn from my mother–the way she dressed when I was growing up was very feminine and sexy, but in an innocent, demure way. I also love the way French gypsies mix, wrap and layer their look.

InStyle.com: So how did you translate that aesthetic into your line?

Nicole Richie: It’s very Lolita-esque, like jumpsuits, rompers, high-waisted shorts and girlie camisoles. But the Kimono-inspired piece is one of my favorites—it is truly a part of the Winter Kate identity.

InStyle.com: Is there anything you’re most proud of from Winter Kate?

Nicole Richie: The camisole dresses! They’re just easy, sexy and elegant all at the same time.

InStyle.com: Any tips on how to style the collection?

Nicole Richie: You have to dress for yourself! The way I put looks together is different than perhaps my customers would. For me, I would throw on the dress with a pair of House of Harlow 1960 flat riding boots during the day, and then put on a pair of opaque tights with a House of Harlow 1960 bootie at night.

InStyle.com: Now that House of Harlow 1960 has expanded from just costume jewelry to include shoes, have you thought about doing a fine jewelry collection?

Nicole Richie: I would like to do it one day, but I want it to be accessible to the customers who’ve supported the brand since its inception.

InStyle.com: How about something for the little ones?

Nicole Richie: As for a children’s line, I’d say anything is possible!

Very few celebrity clothing lines are actually wearable and well-designed. With that said, I absolutely ADORE House of Harlow and Winter Kate. Putting on even just a single peice from the lines instantly makes me feel super sassy and girly, and I think that’s what Nicole intended. There isn’t a single piece from either collection, past and future, that I wouldn’t want to own. Way to go, Nicole!!! Love them!! <3

, just because they make it in your size doesn’t mean you have to wear it. WNTW awllos women to embrace their bodies and look their best without compromising their personal sense of style. The hosts constantly reaffirm that you can still have a personal sense of style and have fun while looking polished and put together.I find that most of the women on WNTW do benefit from the advice—even if the only tidbit of advice they take from the experience is that it is okay to spend time on pampering yourself, dressing well, and caring about how you look. I find that a lot of the women genuinely appreciate the experience and benefit from their new wardrobes. I have never seen the women on Big Sexy look tacky or dress inappropriately. They all know their bodies and what works for them. What Not to Wear simply helps other women to be just as confident and wear what works for them.
