January Jones dazzled in an electric blue Atelier Versace gown with a crinoline hoop skirt at the 2010 Emmy Awards last night, and the Mad Men star gave us the exclusive dish on the arguably most fashion-forward look of the night. “I just felt like a bird. I love it. It’s like a piece of art,” she said, adding that the getting ready process was more calm than crazy. “I just ordered Greek food and watched TV, had a foot rub. I don’t know, I don’t like a lot of stress.” But getting into the dress that she first spied in an Italian fashion magazine a few months back was more of a process. “I had assistance [getting into the dress],” she said. “There’s just two zippers. The corset zip and the outside zip.” Once she got in the gown, she had no trouble walking. “It’s great to walk in because it’s short in the front,” the actress said of her asymmetrical hem. “Turning is a bit tricky! But we’ll see how I feel after sitting in it for five hours.” Do you like Jones’s choice? Tell us in the comments section below!

The only thing that works is the color on her, which is a home run. The dress itself lacks a strong theme from a design angle – the result is harsh and uncomfortable. Her hair is also a bit “fresh off the sailboat,” and not in a good way.

Surprised your comments did not include how ridiculous she looked when she was sitting in the front row and the short skirt was tipping so far up that you were literally seeing her underwear on camera. It was a dumb choice to wear to this event. This is not the MTV awards. And I am sure she had to know how badly the dress rode up upon sitting. No one wants that kind of press at a group event. Or does she???

I loved the color and shape of this dress… the pattern was a little out there, especially on the bust, but you have to believe she felt very elegant wearing it. Also, it was refreshingly different from everyone elses. I can’t blame anyone from wearing sequins, they’re beautiful, but there were quite a few similar-looking sequined dresses.

She looked stunning in this amazing dress! Best dressed of the night. It’s sad that more actors won’t take risks on the red carpet like this.
