Before Julia Roberts could set off to film Eat, Pray, Love, costume designer Michael Dennison had to take a journey of his own. “Fran Vega-Buck (Julia’s personal costumer since 1993′s The Pelican Brief) and I traveled to each of the locations—New York, Rome, India and Bali—to buy clothes and accessories before filming started,” Dennison told us. “And we did it in one week!” After the whirlwind trip, Dennison pulled together more than 100 costumes for the around-the-world shoot. “Each part of the story is associated with a season, but the calendar is backwards,” he explained. “We meet Julia’s character when she’s in an emotional winter, then she begins a journey that takes her through fall, summer and finally to spring, the season of rebirth and renewal. What she wears helps us to see how she’s changing and growing.” Click through our gallery for more photos of Roberts’s Eat, Pray, Love style and get a sneak peek at her sexy co-stars, Javier Bardem and James Franco!

I love the diversity of the clothing used for this film! The costume designer is really genius and I love what his thought process was always taking into consideration the backdrop of the film.

I also love that Javier is in this movie opposite Julia, he is a great actor and his accent is killer!

Nice color.I can’t believe the shopping was done in 1 week in all 4 locations.I can’t wait to see the colors but the sleeves are far too loose and too long. The style for years now has been a 4” sleeve for the younger woman. I think we can all agree Julia qualifies. I hope they did justice to her travels in India and not just a parade of silk saris. There are wonderful handloomed cottons that cost relatively little and would photograph beautifully.

I saw Eat, Love, Pray today and think the costuming was appropriate to the locations she visited. I’d like to know where she got her money to explore the places she went so I can do the same next year, lol especially AFTER a divorce!!

We at Eating-Made-Easy loved the movie! The pizza that Julia Roberts enjoyed in Naples was a highlight – while not everyone can take a year off to explore the finer things in life, one can certainly do so by making this Napoli style pizza recipe from the movie. We hope you enjoy it:

I love the movie and the costumes but the best part was when my busines partner and I saw our signature black and white child’s dress being pulled out of the trunk. We were so excited we almost got kicked out of the theater and all of our stores keep calling to ask how we got the “product placement”. We didnt know anything about the dress being in the movie but we’d love to know so we can tell our customers- does anyone have any suggestions on how to find out or possibly get a clip to promote? Any ideas or suggestions appreciated! cheers-

I would love to know where I could find clothes similar to the ones Julia Roberts wore especially in India and Bali. Anyone know where I could?

Does anyone know where I can buy the dress (or one similar) Julia wore in New York City party scene? It’s a dark grey/black V-neck with folds beside the V, and tiny black lace edging on the cap sleeves. It also looks like the skirt is flared/gored with lace piping. It is stylish and sexy. Where can I find it?

My boyfriend saw Eat Pray Love with me and loved how Javier Bardem was casually dressed throughout the movie…does anyone know where I can buy clothing like those that Mr Bardem wore?

I seldom leave remarks, however i did some searching and wound up here Eat, Pray, Love‘s Costume Designer Dishes: ‘We Did It
in One Week!’ : InStyle.com What’s Right Now. And I do have some questions for you if you usually do not mind. Is it just me or does it give the impression like some of the responses come across as if they are written by brain dead visitors? :-P And, if you are posting on additional places, I’d like to follow anything fresh you have to post.

Would you list of every one of your public sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page
or linkedin profile?
