Watch Mad Men‘s Guide to Chic Work Skirts

Aug 3, 2010 @ 5:00 pm

It’s no secret that Mad Men is one of the most influential shows on television, at least when it comes to fashion. And now the show’s costume designer Janie Bryant has teamed up with Simon Kneen, Creative Director of Banana Republic, to film Mad Men-inspired style guides. In this one, the two experts discuss the key pieces behind the show’s signature looks: the pencil skirt and vintage-inspired accessories. But Mad Men fashion isn’t just a faded notion of matching your shoes to your handbag.  Bryant says, “The resurgence of dressing up and dressing for the occasion is what Mad Men is all about.” Watch the video above, and tell us what you think in the comments section below!

Eva Mendes’s Oscar de la Renta Add-On

Aug 3, 2010 @ 1:26 pm

One dress, two looks! Eva Mendes was spotted leaving her hotel en route to The Other Guys premiere in a sexy gray body-hugging Oscar de la Renta sheath, only to arrive at the Ziegfeld Theater in a pouf-skirted number. Both the light silk faille dress and removable overskirt are from the designer’s Resort 2011 collection. Sergio Rossi slingbacks and simple jewelry finished the look, which was styled by Rachel Zoe.

Fall Spotlight: Shearling Jackets

The following is a guest post from one of our favorite online shopping destinations, Decadestwo.

We are suckers for shearling. Soft and sophisticated, shearling is the ultimate luxury trend for fall. Though it may seem a bit early in the fashion calender to start thinking about clothing for cold climates, as far we’re concerned, it’s always better to be prepared! This Vera Wang shearling (right, size 10, $825) is stunning, yet not too over-the-top. We’d pair it with an oatmeal-colored turtleneck and medium-rinse jeans for a casually refined look. On the other hand, this Prada shearling (left, size 44, $2450) is pure decadence, with its gem-encrusted collar and mink trim, it’s just begging to be taken somewhere fabulous. And our hats are off to the fashionista who dares to wear a light cream shearling, like this Dolce & Gabbana jacket (center, size 38, $550), to brave the elements. Up for Auction: Jackie Kennedy’s “Pearls”

Aug 3, 2010 @ 12:04 pm

On August 15th, the British auction house Bonhams will hold its “Pioneers of Pop Culture” sale. One of the big-ticket items on offer? A triple-strand fake-pearl necklace originally owned by none other than Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The champagne-colored “pearls,” which fasten with a faux diamond and emerald clasp, are expected to sell for upwards of $40,000, although a jewelry expert at Bonham’s acknowledged that the high price is due almost entirely to cachet conferred by the former First Lady. “The triple-strand necklace on its own would be worth at most in the very low hundred (pounds),” Jean Ghika said. “It’s fair to say that 99.9% of the value is because they belonged to Jackie Kennedy.”
