Jessica Alba’s Parisian Style Staple: Madewell

Jun 29, 2010 @ 4:24 pm

Lately, Jessica Alba has been spotted out and about in Paris with daughter Marie Honor. And although the toddler is quite the cutie pie, what really caught our eye was Alba’s effortless style. It turns out that both of her outfits are courtesy of one of our favorite sources for easy, affordable summertime staples: Madewell. Her navy blue clambake jumpsuit (right, $118) and bright floral-print dress (left, $154) are both available right now on madewell.com—just in time for the Fourth of July weekend.

Calvin Klein Recreates Iconic Clueless Dress

Jun 29, 2010 @ 2:48 pm

Cher’s wardrobe in Clueless literally changed my life and apparently I’m not alone: Ilaria Urbinati, celebrity stylist and co-owner of the L.A. boutique Confederacy, gushed about her love of the film’s fashion when she was introduced to Calvin Klein Creative Director Francisco Costa. “I sort of geeked out on him, [explaining] how my formative-years love of Calvin Klein was partly based on the little white minidress Alicia Silverstone wears in Clueless,” Urbanati told us. “I reeanacted the entire scene with Cher and her father—‘Cher, what are you wearing?’ ‘A dress!’ ‘Says who?’ ‘Calvin Klein!’—and of course I said, ‘Francisco, you need to remake that dress!’” Costa was so taken with her passion that he went home, watched the scene on YouTube, had the original dress pattern dug out of the archives in Italy and had it re-created exclusively for Urbinati’s boutique. The Week’s Look: Contemporary Glamour

Jun 29, 2010 @ 2:44 pm

The following is a guest post from one of our favorite shopping destinations, Decadestwo.

Decadestwo Senior Buyer Billy Garcia‘s sartorial selections demand serious attention. In fact, Garcia was once pulled out of line at the movies by the LA Times so that they could snap his mid-to-late ’80s Versace-meets-Gaultier outfit. So when we asked Garcia to put together a look for InStyle.com that embodied his vision of contemporary glamour, he didn’t disappoint, mixing a razor-cut Givenchy dress with a silver statement necklace from Marc Jacobs (left), a boxy snakeskin clutch by Bally and a pair of gunmetal leather wedges courtesy of Nina Ricci. Prada E-Store Opens Thursday

Jun 29, 2010 @ 2:40 pm

The Italian label Prada has long prided itself on its signature mix of art and commerce. (The perpetually-closed Prada “boutique” erected by artists in rural Marfa, Texas is a classic example.) So it’s no surprise that the brand’s first e-store—which launches on Thursday at prada.com, will peddle leather goods (like this bag from their Fall 2010 collection) and eyewear alongside short films and animations. We can’t wait to check it out.

Forbes Magazine just released their annual Celebrity 100 Power List, which features some familiar faces—and some surprising newcomers. Oprah Winfrey, who earned an estimated $315 million in the past year, topped the list.  Lady Gaga came in at No. 4, earning $62 million after not even making the list last year. Forbes.com cited that Gaga’s success and thus high placement is due to “a mixture of extreme theatricality, catchy hooks and an image that is edgy, yet business friendly.” She also beat out other top-performing pop contenders including Taylor Swift (who ranked at 12) and Madonna (who snagged 10th place). Another newbie? Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson, who placed right in the middle at No. 50.  Other top performers included Beyonce Knowles and hubby Jay-Z (places 2 and 15, respectively), James Cameron (for his flick Avatar) and Tiger Woods. For the complete list see forbes.com.
