Footloose‘s New Face: Kenny Wormald

Jun 22, 2010 @ 4:17 pm

After rumors that either Zac Efron or Chace Crawford would star in next year’s remake of Footloose, it has been confirmed that 24-year-old dancer Kenny Wormald‘s won the lead role of Ren McCormack. Starring alongside the Boston native (who just toured with Justin Timberlake) is country singer and former Dancing With the Stars champ Julianne Hough as Ariel Moore. Producer Craig Zadan told the Hollywood Reporter that when he “discovered Kevin Bacon in 1984, [I] was excited and gratified—and also knew the chances of ever duplicating that effort was a million to one shot. Decades later, Kenny Wormald proved history could repeat itself.” What do you think of the newcomer’s casting? Tell us in the comments below!

Reese Witherspoon Wears Equestrian Chic

Jun 22, 2010 @ 3:09 pm

Spotted: Reese Witherspoon in costume on the set of Water for Elephants, looking perfectly on trend for Fall 2010. Wearing jodhpurs, a plaid vest and sleek riding boots, the blond actress was the epitome of equestrian chic. Of course, we wouldn’t expect anything else from Witherspoon, who always looks classically pulled together. Water for Elephants co-stars Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson and hits theaters in 2011.

Alexander McQueen’s Ashes Scattered in Scotland

Jun 22, 2010 @ 1:17 pm

Legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s ashes were scattered at Kilmuir, an area off Scotland’s Isle of Skye known for its beautiful seascapes, on May 29. (The designer committed suicide this past February.). A statement from the McQueen family released yesterday read: “[Alexander] cherished the times that he was able to spend on the Isle of Skye—he enjoyed the beauty, peace and tranquility. It was [his] final request that his ashes be buried there.” Expect a memorial service to be held later this year, although a date has yet to be set.  See our complete retrospective of the designer.

One year after his untimely death, it’s clear that Michael Jackson’s legacy lives on. Not only is it nearly impossible to find a pop star who hasn’t been influenced by his music—and, of course, his music videos—but the current crop of chart and box-office-topping performers seem equally inspired by the man’s inimitable fashion sense. (For proof, look no further than eleven-year-old Jaden Smith’s recent “Thriller” homage.)  Click on to see how Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Usher, Katy Perry and Beyonce  have all been inspired by the King of Pop’s style.

Chelsea Clinton to Wed in Classic Vera Wang?

Jun 22, 2010 @ 12:19 pm

Rumor alert: First Daughter Chelsea Clinton has reportedly tapped bridal icon Vera Wang to design her wedding gown. Although the details are under wraps, StyleList hears that “they’re putting the dress together right now, and it’s taking some time.” Last year, Wang designed Ivanka Trump‘s wedding gown, looking to Grace Kelly’s iconic dress for inspiration; Chelsea has long been a fan of classic chic, so we’re betting that she, too, will wear one of Wang’s simpler styles when she weds investment banker fiance Marc Mezvinsky on July 31st. Of course, Chelsea’s gown is being custom-made, but based on the advice Wang offers to “traditionalist” brides on her website, we’re expecting “a dignified and refined” gown, with “distinctive yet understated” decoration.

A Brief History of Pop’s Biggest Bra Moments

Jun 22, 2010 @ 11:15 am

So far, it’s been a very big year for what we here at InStyle.com like to call “the statement bra.” Everyone from Rihanna to Lady Gaga has recently donned at least one of the attention-getting garments—not-so-intimates for which support seems almost entirely beside the point. “California Gurls” singer Katy Perry is a particular proponent of the pop-star-friendly trend—she appeared at Canada’s MuchMusic Video Awards in this sparkling pink number on Sunday—but we’ve done a little digging and found that female musicians have been working the underwear-as-outerwear thing since way before the 25-year-old was born. Click on the gallery to see a brief history of pop’s biggest bra moments.

Larry King Hosts Star-Studded Gulf Coast Telethon

Jun 22, 2010 @ 10:47 am

Last night, Larry King recruited Hollywood’s star power for his telethon benefiting the people of the U.S. Gulf Coast suffering from the oil disaster. Nicole Richie, Ivanka Trump, Alyssa Milano, Chelsea Handler and Jenny McCarthy were just a few of the stars on hand to take callers monetary pledges, while Cameron Diaz, Justin Bieber and Robert Redford encouraged donations. “Seeing what is going on there makes me sad and mad and sick at heart. Do something to help the Gulf right now,” said Diaz. “Not tomorrow, not next week, but right now.” The two-hour special, during which Ryan Seacrest hosted a “Social Suite” for Facebook and Twitter donations, raised over 1.3 million dollars for three different support charities: United Way, National Wildlife Federation and The Nature Conservancy.

Find out how you can donate to help the Gulf now.
