12 Summer Style Tips from Resort 2011

Jun 18, 2010 @ 1:57 pm

As the Resort 2011 collections come to a close, I’m left dreaming of sun, sand and my summer style. I love the always-bright color palettes and references to exotic locales where I, too, would like to vacation (hello, St. Tropez). While the retro prints and gorgeous day dresses won’t hit stores until October, you can use them now to inspire your summer look! Pair sweet gingham with bleached out jeans like Karl Lagerfeld did at Chanel, or reach for a bracelet-sleeve trench in bubble gum pink in lieu of a cardigan like Marc Jacobs suggested at Louis Vuitton. Click on the gallery for more summer style tips from Resort 2011.

America Ferrrera Is Engaged!

Jun 18, 2010 @ 12:55 pm

Ugly Betty may have just ended, but America Ferrera is on to new beginnings: Yesterday, the actress confirmed her engagement to longtime beau, director Ryan Piers Williams. And the 26-year-old accessorized her one-shoulder Alice+Olivia dress with her new diamond ring (with what looks like an antique-inspired setting and beautiful round center stone) at the premiere of The Illusionist on Wednesday. Congrats to the happy couple!

Tilda Swinton’s I Am Love Cinematic Style

Jun 18, 2010 @ 11:20 am

She’s known for her bold red-carpet style, but in the emotionally charged drama I Am Love, which hits select theaters today, Tilda Swinton adopts a more classic look for her role. Set in Milan, the film generated buzz in the fashion world when Jil Sander’s Raf Simons took on the project. Says the Belgain designer: “The clothing perfectly defines Tilda’s character [Emma], a woman who longs to break out of her world of superficial perfection.” The British actress gave us her take on the collaboration: “Through the use of color, Emma stands apart as a potentially rogue element, a molten spirit, but still makes sense within the milieu. Simons’s sense of color is supersonic, bright as a daisy. The cut of his clothes makes him an absolute sculptor.” The tomato red sheath (left) made such an impression that it is being specially produced for jilsander.com. Kristen Stewart‘s traded in her signature laid-back style (including the Converse sneaks) for some glamorous looks while promoting The Twilight Saga‘s newest installment, Eclipse (in theaters June 30th). While her co-stars Anna Kendrick and Ashley Greene are dishing about their style plans for the movie’s promotional tour, Stewart has already found her perfect red carpet formula: the LBD. At last night’s Rome premiere, she looked stunning in a glamorous one-shouldered ruffled Marchesa dress and Roger Vivier platforms (left). During a photo call in Italy, Stewart opted for ladylike chic in a J. Mendel tweed and organza dress paired with peep toe pumps (right). But our personal favorite was the belted, long-sleeve Prabal Gurung minidress (center) she wore to the Korean premiere—it was the perfect mix of Stewart’s trademark tough-girl style and newfound glam.
