Lea Michele’s Tonys Style: ‘Modern & Bright’

Jun 9, 2010 @ 3:07 pm

Before she hit it big on Glee, Lea Michele was already a Broadway sensation, so we weren’t surprised when she told us that she plans to make a theatrical entrance at Sunday night’s Tony Awards. “For the last several red carpets I’ve done classic Hollywood glamour, but the look I’m planning for the Tonys is more modern,” Michele told us at the launch of MARKTBeauty.com in N.Y.C. last night. “My dress is very bright; I’ve never worn anything like this on a red carpet before!” (The actress will change into an ensemble that she describes as “classic Broadway” before taking the stage at Radio City Music Hall to sing a duet with co-star Matthew Morrison.) Though she works with stylist Estee Stanley, Michele told us it’s boyfriend Theo Stockman (who is currently starring in the Green Day-inspired musical American Idiot) who gets to have final approval. Bravo’s Stylish New Show: Work of Art

Ladies, set your TiVos: Tonight, at 11pm EST, Bravo premieres its newest obsession-worthy reality series, Work of Art: The Search for the Next Great American Artist. On the show, fourteen aspiring artists will compete for $100,000 and a solo show at the famed Brooklyn Museum, but the beauty of this program is the way that it accurately represents the intersection between art and fashion: Halston creative director Sarah Jessica Parker is an executive producer, and designer Cynthia Rowley’s husband—the artist Bill Powers—serves as a judge; the show is hosted by erstwhile model/it girl China Chow. (And one of the contestants, Peregrine, owns a lingerie boutique and recently co-produced a magazine that explores the relationship between fashion and art.) As Rowley exclusively told us, ”Art and fashion often go hand in hand, and [this is] the first time we’ve been able to look inside the artist’s studio. We get to see the process, from inspiration to final work, with a little healthy competition bringing out the best (and the worst).” We’re already dusting off our sketchbooks.

UPDATE: SJP made a surprise cameo on the season premiere, giving the artists a pep talk before their first challenge. And although we don’t expect to see more of her, we can at least hold out hope!

Princess Di Dress Sold For Almost $300,000!

Jun 9, 2010 @ 12:45 pm

Princess Di’s black taffeta dress that she wore for her first official appearance as the Princess of Wales (earning her the nickname Daring Di thanks to its sexy bare shoulders) has been sold. The lucky bidder? Chile’s Museo de Moda (a.k.a. Fashion Museum), who picked up the dress for a hefty price tag of $276,000. Not bad, considering it was expected to fetch around $100,000.

Miley Cyrus and Max Azria For Walmart, Take Two

Jun 9, 2010 @ 12:13 pm

Miley Cyrus has again teamed up with BCBG designer Max Azria to create a second collection for Wal-Mart. While the newly-released promo shots offer only a glimpse of the line, the pieces we’ve seen so far—including this Dolman-sleeve top and these adorable printed shorts—are easy to love. Other must-haves? Softly-patterned button-downs, skinny black jeans and tiny rompers. And at these prices, we’ll be tempted to pick up the entire line when it hits Wal-Mart stores this fall. Click on the gallery for a sneak peek at the collection.

Levi’s Loves Music—Just Ask Colbie Caillat!

Jun 9, 2010 @ 11:12 am

Levi’s is continuing its tradition of bringing great jeans and great music together with the recent launch of “Levi’s Pioneer Sessions: The Revival Recordings.” Every week through July, Levi’s will release remakes of past music hits sung by music’s current voices. One songstress they’ve tapped is the talented Colbie Caillat, whose laid-back, California girl style is right on target with the denim brand. We can’t stop listening to Caillat’s version of “Maria” by Blondie—it’s infectious! For more photos, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions check out Levi.com.
