“There aren’t many modern options for the mother of the bride,” J.Crew’s Head of Wedding Design Tom Mora pointed out at last night’s grand opening of the label’s new (and first-ever) Madison Avenue bridal boutique. That’s why the brand made a point to have some great picks for mom in the midst of all the bridal bliss. “Don’t forget—it’s her Big Day too,” Mora said. Displayed among the gorgeous wedding gowns and perfect bridesmaid dresses—most of which are exclusive to the store and could work for just about any event that calls for dressing up—were classy-cool looks for mom, including our favorite: a fitted tuxedo shirt/duchess satin skirt combo finished off with a bold jeweled necklace. And speaking of accessories, the store boasts exclusive jewelry from Mariam Haskell and Fenton/Fallon, flirty Cosabella lingerie and the most stunning head pieces you’ll ever see from New York-based veil maker Leah C. And, of course, all the greatest hits from J.Crew’s amazing online bridal boutique are available as well.

Vanessa Hudgens Cuts Up MaxMara Gown!

Jun 2, 2010 @ 3:26 pm

At last night’s Crystal + Lucy Awards in L.A., Vanessa Hudgens admitted that she’d taken a pair of scissors to her MaxMara gown before walking out the door. “It was too formal, so to make it more of a cocktail dress I chopped the slip,” said Hudgens, whose DIY alterations took the look of the black chiffon floor-length gown from demure to daring. “My stylist and I always end up reworking dresses. I like to have fun with fashion.” Boyfriend Zac Efron wasn’t on hand to give his opinion, but the actress did get a thumbs up from stylish pal Nikki Reed. “Nikki and I went over our outfits earlier today, but then I decided to add my own flair,” Hudgens said of the last-minute decision to shorten her hem by several inches. The finishing touches to her custom creation? “A pair of YSL heels and a Chanel clutch, because they both go with everything.”

Preview Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” Video

Jun 2, 2010 @ 1:37 pm

Last month, Lady Gaga promised that her new music video for “Alejandro,” would be less outrageous and more of an arty affair, which explained her decision to enlist legendary fashion photographer Steven Klein to direct. A preview for the video just launched, and the superstar, so far, holds true to her pledge. Shot in black-and-white film, with some shots reminiscent of Madonna’s “Vogue,” the video looks poised to offer lots of military-influenced dance sequences and several noticeably stark fashion moments. Of course, we still expected a little scandal from Gaga, and she delivers: we glimpsed at least one steamy bed scene. Check out the preview above and stay tuned for the full video!

SATC2 Scoop! Kim’s Haircut, Cynthia’s Skin

Jun 2, 2010 @ 1:20 pm

As expected, the ladies of SATC2 turned it out on the red carpets in the fashion department. But we were equally impressed by their varied hair and makeup looks, so we got the scoop from a few of the experts who have been creating them. “Kim Cattrall and I both love a change and wanted something fresh that would move and be doable for her in real life,” said her Sex and The City 2 hairstylist Ryan Trygstad, who was also responsible for the blunt bangs and bob the star debuted yesterday. “We looked to Katie Holmes and Christina Aguilera for inspiration.” As for Cynthia Nixon’s flawless skin, makeup artist Matin has been turning to two products throughout the press tour: Orlane Creme Royale Eye Contour, a luxe cream flecked with 24-kt gold which he uses to highlight her cheekbones, and Sampar Eye Rule, a cooling rollerball that refreshes the skin around the eyes with a blend of peptides. Keep up the good work, boys!

Givenchy Hosts Star-Studded Art Party

Jun 2, 2010 @ 1:16 pm

Last night, the artist Marina Abramovic concluded her 68-day performance piece “The Artist is Present,” at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art, and Givenchy hosted a star-studded dinner to celebrate the close of her exhibit. Most of the celebrities—including Liv Tyler, Christina Ricci, Courtney Love and Ciara—donned current-season dresses designed by the label’s creative director, Ricardo Tisci, and the prevailing fashion mood was accordingly darkly conceptual, even goth. (Bjork, always the individualist, broke ranks by opting for an ornate gold mini-dress from the archives.) Click on the gallery to see the looks, or visit MOMA’s Flickr feed to see photographs of stars like James Franco, Isabella Rossellini, Marisa Tomei, Sharon Stone, Kim Cattrall and (again) Bjork taking part in the now-closed performance.

Kristin Davis has looked incredible on the red carpet as she promotes SATC2, and it’s not because she’s wearing the hottest runway looks of the season: The actress has chosen at least five different vintage looks from Decades, Inc., a vintage couture boutique. Most recently she debuted a soft yellow Jean Patou Haute Couture dress by Christian Lacroix in Japan, then a gold sequin Norman Norell gown and a green Christian Dior Couture frock for the London fetes. She began her vintage couture parade with a hot pink Jean Desses gown at the N.Y.C. premiere and a glittering Pierre Balmain dress for the after-party. (Fun fact: Every single vintage look was also accessorized with a Judith Leiber clutch.) “Kristin is a good friend. She has a tiny ribcage and even tinier waist–it lends itself to the vintage aesthetic,” Cameron Silver, owner of the famous boutique, told us. As for the most sought-after items at the store, like Dior from the early ’50s and anything Balmain: “It’s first come, first serve–except when it comes to Kristin! She gets first dibs on everything!’

Fab Read: Claudia & Karl

Jun 2, 2010 @ 12:00 pm

The following is a guest post from one of our favorite blogs, fabsugar.com.

When Claudia Schiffer and Karl Lagerfeld get together, they create fashion magic. Did you see the Vogue Germany June cover Karl shot of a pregnant Claudia? Further proof is in Claudia & Karl ($37) published by TeNeues. It’s a portfolio—the second one, actually—that Karl has done of his muse Claudia for Stern Fotografie. Pictured is one of six different covers with Claudia looking stern yet sexy in round glasses and a black tie. Just imagine what more you’ll discover when you flip the cover.
