We dished with Alice in Wonderland’s costume designer, Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, just in time for the film’s June 1st DVD release! Atwood, whose previous works include Nine, Chicago and Sweeney Todd (to name a few), was honored this week by the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising with a one-of-a kind exhibition devoted to Alice in Wonderland’s costumes. The exhibit features an array of the movie’s looks, including Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter costume and the Red Queen’s show-stopping gown (left), worn on the big screen by Helena Bonham Carter.   “I’m surprised and honored that people are inspired by my costumes,” Atwood told us.  “When you create these characters and then you see them interpreted by other people, it’s a remarkable feeling.” Click for more of Atwood’s original Alice in Wonderland sketches and to find out the inspiration behind each piece!

Wonderful. I literally finished watching it 5minutes ago. The costumes may have been the best part.
