Zoe Saldana Honored as MaxMara’s Face of the Future

Jun 1, 2010 @ 5:30 pm

With her stunning fashion choices and sparkling smile, Zoe Saldana has proven she’s as much a force on the red carpet as she is on the big screen, and this week the actress was honored with Women in Film’s 2010 MaxMara Face of the Future award. The celebration began on Monday night in L.A. where the Avatar star wowed guests, including Selma Blair and Lake Bell, in a gray MaxMara tank and ruffled skirt for the Italian label’s chic dinner at Sunset Tower’s Terrace Room. Saldana is expected to wear MaxMara again to accept her award tonight at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards, which also honors Courteney Cox.

Inside the Homes of Our Fave Designers

Jun 1, 2010 @ 4:57 pm

American Fashion Designers at Home, a new coffee table book by the CFDA and Assouline, gives readers a peek inside the homes of 115 fashion designers, including Donna Karan‘s lush Parrot Cay getaway as well as the luxurious abodes of Ralph Lauren and CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg. Naturally, we can expect breathtaking decor and a keen attention to color from such an illustrious group, but author Rima Suqi reveals the homes’ creative owners aren’t solely to credit for their luxe environs.  “A lot of people have help, they just don’t always admit it,” she told WWD. “But these designers all read home magazines and have a lot of books on design…A lot of designers have fun with their homes.” The book hits stores in September, but in the meantime, click on the gallery for a glimpse inside four designer homes.

Festive Dresses for Summer Weddings

Jun 1, 2010 @ 2:13 pm

The following is a guest post from one of our favorite shopping destinations, Decadestwo.

June has arrived and wedding season is in full force! While it’s never wise to upstage the bride, we would never let you fade in the background in some shapeless, matronly shift. Rather, we’ve picked pretty dresses in bright colors and festive prints to help you beat those wedding what-to-wear blues!

Zac Posen knows about keeping it red hot and this dress (pictured, in a size 10 and priced at $2100) certainly does not disappoint. Crafted in luscious ruby, the frock features signature Posen deco details mixed with feminine ruffles at the bodice and down the front. Lady Gaga Talks Style In New Video

Jun 1, 2010 @ 1:23 pm

Gaga fans, rejoice: The fashion website SHOWstudio.com (founded by the influential photographer Nick Knight) has posted a two-hour long interview with the style icon/pop star. If you haven’t got 120 minutes to spare, scan the transcript to check out the in-depth questions posed by Lady Gaga’s little monsters as well as fashion-world celebrities like Mario Testino, John Galliano, Naomi Campbell, Daphne Guinness, and Gareth Pugh; topics discussed include art, influence, and even time travel. (For the record, the singer would prefer to visit both the future AND the past, but if forced to choose she’d opt to go forward: “[Alexander] McQueen used to say, ‘You must never look back, you must never go backwards . . .’ so I would go to the future, selfishly, to feed my work and make me a better artist.”

Heidi Klum & Seal: Marriage Counselors

Jun 1, 2010 @ 12:48 pm

Heidi Klum and Seal aren’t just one of Hollywood’s hottest couples, they’re also one of the happiest. So it’s no surprise that the adorable twosome are sharing their secrets to a successful marriage on an upcoming Lifetime series. Tentatively titled Love’s Divine, the series will feature Klum and Seal traveling around the country counseling couples in trouble, and raising the romance quotient in a relationship will likely be high on their list of advice. “My husband always gives really heartfelt presents—beautiful letters, even songs,” Klum told us in our February issue. “It’s the way he surprises me with them that makes it romantic and memorable.” With Klum’s charm and Seal’s thoughtfulness, we can’t think of better coaches to guide couples in need.

Peek Inside Gwyneth’s Nashville Home

Jun 1, 2010 @ 12:27 pm

Gwyneth Paltrow’s weekly newsletter, Goop, has been dominated of late with tidbits from the star’s time in Nashville, Tennessee, where she shot the upcoming movie Love Don’t Let Me Down. But, as thrilled as we were by the news about her new-found love of fried chicken and honky-tonk, the current edition is even more exciting: It offers a peek into the two-bedroom downtown loft that she lived in with her family while in Nashville. Because the apartment was renovated as a part of the independent film’s limited budget, the tips offered by her Tennessee decorator, Annette Joseph, are surprisingly accessible: She suggests hanging children’s artwork (free and plentiful to any parent), and using bright paint to create a cheap, chic accent wall. Alice in Wonderland‘s Costume Inspirations

Jun 1, 2010 @ 11:38 am

We dished with Alice in Wonderland’s costume designer, Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, just in time for the film’s June 1st DVD release! Atwood, whose previous works include Nine, Chicago and Sweeney Todd (to name a few), was honored this week by the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising with a one-of-a kind exhibition devoted to Alice in Wonderland’s costumes. The exhibit features an array of the movie’s looks, including Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter costume and the Red Queen’s show-stopping gown (left), worn on the big screen by Helena Bonham Carter.   “I’m surprised and honored that people are inspired by my costumes,” Atwood told us.  “When you create these characters and then you see them interpreted by other people, it’s a remarkable feeling.” Click for more of Atwood’s original Alice in Wonderland sketches and to find out the inspiration behind each piece!
