Hundreds of up-and-comers from around the globe submitted designs for the 4th Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards, but only 30 made the cut. Winners will be announced on June 16th at a star-studded ceremony hosted by InStyle, Handbag Designer 101 and the Parsons School of Design. Some of the prizes include an opportunity to develop a capsule collection for Saks Fifth Avenue, to produce a limited-edition bag for Swarovski and to apprentice with luxury leather goods designer Carlos Falchi.  One lucky designer will also be honored as InStyle’s Fan Favorite—and that’s where you come in. Browse through the incredible bags from the top five finalists in each category—including Most Innovative Bag, Best Handmade, Most Socially Responsible, Best Green, Best Student Made and Best Overall in Style and Design—and pick the one you love most. Vote now!

UPDATE: This poll is now closed. The winner of the InStyle Fan Favorite Award is Veronica Suarez. Congrats!

-kate on May 21st, 2010

The clutch from Magaret Hansen is awesome. I am very interested in the material. Did she use beads? And is the zipper an USB stick?! Would be very innovative and different than the other bags. Where do I get more info about her and her retailers?
Thanks, P

I like a few of these featured designers…. I’ve been voting, seems like it’s not registering or just not being counted correctly…… Am I the only one not seeing votes???

-Annie DiCicco on May 23rd, 2010

I have also been trying to post my vote for the handbag I like but it doesn’t seem to count it…what is going on?

-lorena on May 23rd, 2010

Me and my friends are voting for Dalia Pascal´s clutch, we are many friends voting for it because we know her work and what she has been doing for mexican handcrafts, and we love this model , the votes don’t seem to count, even though we have been trying over and over, is there a problem with the voting system?

-kathy on May 23rd, 2010

The carnce collection by Chance Jackson has it all. Its Brillant!! Jan

-jan keel on May 24th, 2010

I see a couple of great designs, one of which I have been voting for along with many other people. However, no matter how much we vote nothing seems to move. Not even 1 percent. Can someone at instyle explain the polling.

-William on May 24th, 2010

I’ve seen the La Chica Chic in person… the natural stones used are beyond fabulous and it feels awesome in both shape and materials!!!! NO KIDDING!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!

-bessie brown on May 24th, 2010

I heart Cristiane Valdez clutch and her line. I bought one of her bags in the past and every time I wear people ask me about it! It makes me feel so good! I truly love her style!

-Carrie Sullivan on May 25th, 2010

What is the problem with the voting??? My whole entire job has voted for Kelly Horton, and yet we have seen not one vote count! Someone needs to post these rules. If its fan favorite it atleast needs to be fair game! Have a great day In Style Magazine!

-Marie on May 25th, 2010

I think this is great exposure & awesome that InStyle is doing a “Fan Favorite” for all the finalist… I’ve cast my votes for a designer, not sure when or how it’s tally’d, but the voters as well as designers should have a better understanding of this process!!! Congrats to all & best of luck!

-Sara Lin on May 25th, 2010

I got a CARNCE mens bag and its realy cool all the features durabilty and one of the must important things i liked about this bag is that it realy does look like a guy bag not like some other ones that look like you took it out of your sisters closet lol! anyway is a good option for those guys out there trying to wear a bag but still look like a guy so way to go CARNCE!!!! keep up that good stuff men !!!!!!

-RICHARD YEPEZ on May 26th, 2010

I love the Veronica Suarez clutch, is edgy and classy at the same time. I want to see more from her collection, is there a website?

-georgeana on May 26th, 2010

Margaret Hansen’s clutch just looks so fashion forward AND then when you find out what it is made of, so “green”. I wish more designers added that touch of style to recycling. It would get more attention. She has my vote!

-Saro on May 26th, 2010

Definitely LA CHICA CHIC! Original designs, colors and textures, I always get compliments on mine!

-Rosa Icela on May 27th, 2010

I myself own a Chako bag and love their designs! They are unique and one-of-a-kind!

-Ingrid on May 27th, 2010

I have been trying to vote as well but the votes dont seem to be increasing at all….Im not sure why this is happening. But my guess is its because a few of the finalists have such high percentages…..

-jose on May 28th, 2010

Since everyone is complaining that their votes aren’t counting I am really astonished that one designer has gained 6% of the votes in an hour in the middle of the night (U.S). Seriously is this a fair competition or are automated votes allowed and I am just wasting my time?
Thanks,
Patricia

-Patricia on May 28th, 2010

To those concerned about the voting structure, I’m a math girl and this is what I think… You have to look at the voting on a grand scale. If there were only 1000 total votes, then if someone voted 10 times for one person, you would see the result in the percentage. However, this in In Style Magazine! It’s very likely we’re talking about 20,000, 30,000, or even 50,000 votes. Or more! If you vote 100 times for one person, out of 50,000 votes… that’s only 0.2%.

I think there’s just one answer to this dilemma… Support your favorite bag and its designer! VOTE MORE!!

-Mary on May 28th, 2010

Is there someone in charge of the voting at InStyle? How is it “humanly” possible for someone to have such a HUGE increase in about an hour? What is the use of everyone voting for their favorites if their votes will not have an impact or make a dent? Is this voting fair? Could we please get a response from someone at InStyle??

-Ann Bennett on May 28th, 2010

Since I’m also a math girl, I understand that there are a lot of votes. That is why the huge jump for one handbag is curious. Following Mary’s examples, a 6% jump in one hour means 1200 votes (if 20,000), 1800 votes (if 30,000) or 3000 votes (if 50,000) in just one hour. That, as Ann says, doesn’t seem “humanly” possible, especially since the site loads so slowly. So what’s going on here ?!

-Patricia on May 28th, 2010

@ Ann Bennett & Patricia – It is “humanly possible” especially if you have 100s of devoted fans like my self. I vote every single day sometimes for hours straight. I will continue voting and supporting the artist I LOVE & ADMIRE and there’s nothing you two can do about it……
Ana Maria Plata’s bag & Margaret Hansen’s bag both went up more than 10% in a day, but Veronica Suarez & Zoe & Christina Suarez have been favorites since day one. Did you notice that too? I did…..
FYI – The site it is not slow, that is probably your browser or internet connection dear. Stop hating and vote for your favorite designer.

-Roci on May 28th, 2010

Congratz to all who have even been nominated !! They are all very very beautiful bags! But I must agree the voting seems just a little fishy, and to little miss sunshine above me, I read this site everyday unlike most, so I happened to notice that the Red hand bag was in the lead with 64% and the next day was at 10%. (FYI). But enough of that, I hope that all the designers know they are all winners!

-Magie on May 28th, 2010

It would have been wiser to establish a voting system that wouldn’t allow a person to vote more than once from each computer.
The way I see it now, as Roci says here, it doesn’t seem that the votes go to the most beautiful or liked bags but to the people who can allow themselves to sit and do nothng than vote, vote and vote all over again.
Too bad…

-kar on May 29th, 2010

I LOVE the CHAKO clutches!!!!! I have a few myself, and every time I wear them I’m always asked where to buy one and who made it! This mother and daughter team know what women want. CHAKO bags are timeless, they go with everything from jeans to evening wear and is A MUST HAVE in any woman’s wardrobe!

-Stephanie on May 29th, 2010

Thanks to you all who have been voting! The Instyle Poll has been a success for us all. We have received a tremendous amount of feedback from devout fans who want to see their favorite bag and designer get to the top. There are several perspectives from which we may determine the winner, but here at Instyle it’s all about the Fans!!!! So keep voting and we’ll let you guys choose who gets to the top! Goodluck!
